1989 GTU exhaust
hi i drive a 1989 gtu and it is stock for stock for stock! ha so i wanna have some fun with it.. problem is, i dont really know what kind of catback or cat, etc.. that i need. im looking for affordable power. i figure a header and straight pipes might be my best best bet... but, again...not sure anyone got some reccomendations?

There's a start....
There's more like corksport, borla, apexi, greddy, etc...
Most of them are pretty loud though.

Also I have 3" straight pipes to Racing Beat mufflers-- loud as hell, gotta nice little rumble at idle and everybody thinks i have cams -- but a noticeable difference from stock

it's an 89 so it uses the airpump to actuate the aux ports and his vdi.
As far as exhaust goes, it's hard to find a good balance between loud as hell and decent power gains. My setup is a pacesetter header and monza catback (picked it up for $100 from a guy in topeka) and had a shop weld in a thrush glasspack in the middle, it has a nice deep sound, decent poweband for a street car and I'm happy to know I didn't spend $500 on it.
People on here will tell you the the rotary exhaust will destroy a glasspack, mine has been on my 89 gtu for months and still has a great sound.

From what i have learned it depends on the quality of the glass pack, napa specials wont last long at all
I would be curious to hear what a glasspack sound like on a rotary. I can't imagine it sounds good at all...
I like it, sounds smooth instead of the minibike sounds it made before the glasspack. It's pretty deep too, it triggers the car alarm on the civic at the entrance to my apartment complex every time I drive by.
The glasspack wont have any glass left in it but it will be acting as a resonator which interupts the straight pipe and keeps noise down.
