1988 Vert missing headrest controls?

Hello;

I have an odd question - I have an 88 Vert with the leather seats, with headrest speakers, but my console has no controls for the headrest speakers.

I DO have the amp behind the driver's seat, so I assume mine came with the headrest speakers. Did ALL S4's with the headrest speakers have the controls?

If so, I should have the wires under my console to plug them right in, correct?

This is kind of a "just curious" question, as I plan to replace the speakers and wire them direct to the back channel of my head unit, but I was wondering also, if having them in the new circuit would have any advantage?

i would suggest just wireing them into your headunit and using that, the advantage would be that its kind of a PITA to get to the stock amps and wire them with a remote so that they turn on when you want them to, and for them being stock they are pretty damn quiet. When i wired mine into the back of my Alpine deck i just wired them in series with my rear channel that i had already rewired to bypass the rear amp. in my vert with some minor speaker channel adjustments on the head unit with conjunction of having component speakers in the front with crossovers (tweeters and 6 1/2 2 way woofers) i can move my head anywhere in the car and it sounds the same, its super surround sound in the car and i love it. I also have a 12 inch alpine sub in the back with a really narrow Q-Logic enclosure and bridged 300W amp that sounds sweet and hits hard on command.....sorry for rambling on about sounds systems, they're kind of my thing. PM me if you have any questions

Oh and on the 'new circuit" thing, YES rewire all of your speakers with NEW 14g wireing, the difference with astound you. and it will add durability to your sounds system if you decide to add a 4 or 6 channel amp to power all of your seakers VS just a head unit

Do you have leather door panel inserts???

If you do not, then you probably have a non P- Package convertible which did not come with headrest speakers, and of course the controls for them would also be missing.

If you do have the leather door panel inserts, then someone probably just removed the panel and left the head rest speakers not connected. A new switch will make the system work. The plug will be found next to the power mirror switch in the center consol.

There is no need to re-wire the stock system unless you have an amplifier with more than 50 watts RMS a channel or the stock wiring is damaged.

Mark;

If the choice is leather or cloth, then, yes, I have leather. If it's leather or vinyl, then I don't know.

However, I have all the other options listed as Pkg Opt in your sticky " Specifications: What did the 2nd Generation RX-7 come w/. Options & standard features", so I am fairly sure I have the P-Package.

Well, my harness is cut, so I wonder if the idiot also cut off the harness for the speaker controls. (I haven't looked yet)

I have a thread "Differences in S4 NA Dash Harnesses?" https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/differences-s4-na-dash-harnesses-501051/ where I ask and then decide that the difference would be because of the headrest speakers?

yep if he cut the plugs there is a good chance he cut up the headrest controls as well.

And yes, P package would be leather seats and all 'verts with leather seats from the factory came with headrest speakers, headrest speaker amp, and controls.

If your looking to replace the stock switch, they are for sale on e-bay all the time. They usually sell for around $20.
