1988 RX7 Problem. Need Wiring Diagram
Hello this is my first time posting here and my first time owning an RX7.
My prblem is that when I bought the car from this guy that I was not informed that the turning signals did not work. I have gone through everything from replacing bulbs and fuses to replacing the turning signal switch. The odd part is the the flashers still work and when I switch the turning signal to the left blinkers it turns on the ash tray lights and also the headlights, taillights and all the lights involved with the blinkers. I left the switch on for a while and it started smoking and so I check to see if there where any hot wires and the red wire coming off the the switch was warm. Now I don'r have a good wiring diagram that will show me where that red wire runs and if it splits off at some point to where it might be grounding out. if anyone can help me out they'd be a life saver.
Thanks in advance,

Thanks for the web site addy but it seems that the diagrams are still not telling me about the wire that is etting hot and where it goes and if it splits. I know that addy will be great for future work on the car.

Man, somebody really did a hack job, lol...Or, maybe not...Read on...
If you're powering the headlights through the turn signal switch, that would be enough current draw to get the power wire hot, that's for sure...Funny thing is most of these different lights coming on are (or should be) completely different circuits. The turn signal switch is fed power from the 15 amp "turn" fuse, and the wire should be black with a red stripe, not red. If it's a fairly large red wire, then someone tapped into the power wire for the headlight circuit, that's supposed to go to the headlight switch (one possibility).
The remainder of the wire colors for the turn signal switch should be:
Green/red (goes to the hazard/flasher unit in the CPU)
Green/yellow (same as above, but for the other side)
Green/white (to the turn cancel sensor)
Reg/green (to the panel light control for the internal bulb, gets power from the headlight switch)
Black (to ground)
One of the first two wires might have been spliced in somewhere down the line. Follow the wiring as far as you can (if it was spliced it should be easy to find, unless it was wrapped up again), and see if a white/blue wire is spliced in. This wire comes from the headlight switch and gives a ground to the headlight relay, and would explain the headlights coming on with the turn signal.
Also make sure the Red/green and black wires are not spliced together near the switch, or down the line, this would cause the ashtray light to come on.
Your problems could also be caused by a bad contact or diode in the headlight switch. A way to troubleshoot this would be to disconnect the headlight switch connector, then see if the turn signal works now. I would do this first, since it's easy enough to do, and since our headlight switches are known gremlins in our cars...
