Is this 1988 Rx-7 a good deal??

Hey nice to meet ye all, I am new to the site.
Right now I own a 2001 camaro v6 3.8 . I love my camaro, but it is just to slow.
Well to the reason i am here, I know a guy that is selling a 1988 RX-7 no turbos. The RX-7 motor is shot and it needs new breaks and rotors. The body looks good for a 1988 there are some rust spots and dents. no cd player or tape deck.
what do you all think this car is worth??
he wants $400 for it

If i get this car I plan on rebuilding the rotor, if i can't I am going to drop a chevy small block v8 350 in it. well please tell me what ye think, thank you.

hhmm if your new i wouldnt come and say your might drop a 350 v8 into a rx7.... might not get the welcome your hoping for... but for 400 i would take the car... mostly because im sure i could part it out for more money... however if your looking for fast then n/a is not the way to go... you need to just look for a tII or you could turbo the n/a for quite a gain which is the new fad around here... if you know nothing about the rotary engine you need to either be very willing to learn about them or not buy the car.... thats my advice

thanks, well it is true i dont know rotors vary well at all. Since this is not my main car and I am not going to sell my camaro. I have all the time in the world to rip this RX-7 apart and learn how it works. I need a new hobbie, I allwas thought the RX7 was a awsome car. I am going to run out and grab some snap shots of this RX-7.

You could always drop a turbo rotary engine in there since that one is already shot.. You can always fit the 350 in there with out to much trouble.. I even believe they make an adaper plater for the transmittion housing. You should be able to make as much power as a mildly modified turboII with a slightly modified 350 and still be able to get better gas milage and reliablity out of it. It won't affect hanlding to much as the 350 only weighs 50 or so pounds more then a 13bt longblock, just relocate battery to the back to help compinsate.

But for a strait body 400$ is definitly worth it. Hope you enjoy your new project. It will still be a blast to drive.. no matter what powerplant is has.

That's a Sport... definatly worth $400 is you ask me.

Edit: Wait a minute, they didn't make Sports in 88... they renamed them to GTU. That car has to be an 86-87.5 Sport.

Well the Sport is actually very sought after for racing puposes,
due to the fact that it's the lightest FC that still has 4-piston brakes!

Well it's the lightest 5-lug S4 model...
I think the S5 GTUs may be lighter but I'm not positive on that...

My camaro is 0-60 7.2 secs
but i dont want to risk blowing up my camaro, cuse I use this car to drive over states alot. If this Rx7 can do higher 7s stock, how much whoud I need to put in to it to make it 0-60 5sec and at lest a 13 sec 1/4 mile

someone was telling me you can add more rotors to a rx7 and get much more power out of them. how do you do that, and how much might it cost and is it worth it?

it costs about 20 grand to do a 3 rotor if you do it yourself ... there is a place that will do it all for you for 40 grand i think though

You can get it done way cheaper than that...
You can do a full 20B swap with EVERYTHING for well under 10 grand...
