1988 motor compatable with 1986?

I have the opportunity to pick up a running 13b N/A from a 1988 Rx7, and want to know if it will swap into my 1986?

The transmission currently on mine is a 5 speed, and the one from the 88' is an automatic. Will I be able to unbolt the automatic tranny and bolt my 5 speed on?

His motor also has around 12x,000 miles, and wants $250 for it.

Good idea? Motor mount difference? I want my car running, and would like to know if there is alot of fab. involved.

Thanks!

Your 88 may have different fuel injectors(HI impedance) where as the 86 should have LO impedance fuel injectors.
The engines themselves should just swap out no problem. But you will have to check the Injectors's Impedance to make sure that you are gonna be ok there.
IF you are going to use the same engine harness and Injectors that are Currently ON the car right now, then you will not have a Problem...If you decide to use the NEW engines's harness, them make sure you use Everything,,you cannot use ONE harness and the OTHER engines components.(as the 86 harness will have an injector Resistor pack on it,and the 88 is using HI impedance injectors,.it would be a Mis-match...the 88 harness will have NO resistor pack,as the engine runs HI impedance injectors.)
Now Transmission wise,,Take the AUTO Transmission Flex plate and Counterweight OFF the New engine and replace it with the Manual Flywheel. You can Now run the engine as a Manual.
That should be it,,you are set.
Cheers,STYX!~~
