Question 1988 big problems please help diagnose!!

Ok firstly this is not my car it is my friends and he asked me to get on here to ask.

My friend, Alex, lives in Minnesota and has a real GTUs with nice Borla exhaust with each exhaust pipe going to one exhaust port.

Alright here's what happened. He drove his car one day and parked it at his work. later (engine still warm) he went to drive it again and when he started it it ran real rough and the whole car was shaking. Sohe shut it off. he tried to start it again and it didn't start.

A couple of days later he and a friend went back and changed out the spark plugs and he noticed that the old front rotor's spark plug was covered in gunk and little bits of metal. Yeah...

So he changed out the plugs anyway to see if it was going to start, and so he could drive it back to his parking garage if possible. When he turned it over it started but it still sounded pretty bad and he said it sounded like the timing was all off or maybe like it was running on one rotor. He went outside his car and saw that one of his exhaust tail pipes was pushing out a grey-blue smoke, and since his exhaust has one pipe going to one rotor he figured it was the rotor with the shavings or metal in it. He bought a compression tester but couldn't fit it in the space by the engine, plus it was starting to snow so he stopped. He tried to drive it a little and noticed that the tranny was still good but he had to keep his foot on the gas. As soon as he let his foot off and came to the first stop-light his car died and they had to push it back.

What do you guys think is wrong with it? Everyone in class gets 5 extra credit points if you can tell me what you think happened to it in the first place.

Thanks.

ooh... i'm not an expert but i'm here so i'll be the first to say that if an engine has bits of metal in it, you probably shouldnt try to drive it anymore... he probably blew and apex seal- i would expect you to know that since you have 300 posts... how many miles on the engine?

hey... First of all I'm in Kansas and he's in Minnesota so I wasn't there to stop him from driving the dang thing. Secondly I'm pretty positive that it was an apex seal but since (thankfully) this has never happened to me I asked in here to be sure. Plus he asked me to post up in here to find out if it could be anything else 'cause I told him it was an apex seal.

300 posts doesn't mean your a rotor head either. I could just be spewing random posts every day and get 300 posts easily. but most of the time I do know what I'm doing and I'm only posting because he asked.

Thanks
