1987 Water Temperature Switch
I just want to confirm that the water temperature switch located on the right side of the radiator controls an auxiliary fan on some cars. If it does not, please correct me.

Actually, now that I read through the FSM it looks like that switch has something to do with the secondary air injection circuit. Could someone shed a little light on what would happen if this is disconnected?
There is also a temp switch at the bottom of the radiator on the drivers side which I believe is used for the "accelerated warm up system." There is also a sensor on top of the radiator, passenger side, which I believe is the coolant level sensor and as the previous poster stated there is a sensor by the radiator on some cars which controls the "electric fan." There is also a temp sensor down by the water pump behind the housing.
You would need to jumper the two disconnected wires and tie them to something to prevent them from unwantonly hanging. I believe just disconnecting them won't disable the system.

The switch on the bottom of the radiator is triggered at something like 60 F. It is used by the ECU to decide whether or not the AWS system should boost idle speed to ~3K RPM. If you unplug the wires and jump them together, the ECU will always think the temperature is above ~60F and prevent the 3K idle. If you unplug them, but do not jump them together, it will probably make your car ALWAYS start with a 3k idle.
