Smile 1987 Turbo two project finally drives!! Thanks everyone who helped!

So, after my g/f fronted $400.00 to purchase this turbo rx7 with 69 thousand miles on it we were hit hard by the bitch hurricane katrina. However the money I recieved thanks to that hurricane made driving this car possible again.

So, the story was that the guy put the car up in 1994 because of an injury that didnt allow him to drive the car anymore. He tryed to trade the car in at a dealership but did get the money he wanted for it, so he just kept it and let it sit outside in the weather since that year. I could not believe it when I saw in the paper, 1987 rx7 turbo, 69 thousand miles, $500.00. I could not believe my eyes. Anyways he sold at 400. His offer at the dealer some years before was 6000.00, what an idiot eh?

So obviously the car did not work. I thought it was going to need a motor because that is what he told me. So, despite what he said, I thought well hell, we should try it if im going to buy a new motor. So i took the IC off and sprayed ether in the intake and went to cranking. To my surprise, she started, with almost no fuss. No ATF either, which seemed odd. Of course I couldnt keep her running.

I went to investigating and it turns out the fuel tank and pump was rusted like you can not even imagine. I put in a walboro 255 pump because I knew I was going to boost it up more than Stock, and I got a new tank. I then rewired the fuel pump. I decided since everything was so dry rotted under the hood, that I would order every coolant hose, heater hose, vacuum line, fuel line, oil line that I could possible order from mazdatrix. The old coolant was like crystalized inside the coolant system. So I also bought a new radiator. I also had a problem prior to this getting the car to boost properly or to maintain a decent idle. So I bought 720 secondaries new from greddy and had the primaries flowed at some shop locally for 16 bucks a piece. They actually pretty much rebuilt the injectors and painted them. They came out awesome. I had to rig up something to replace that pulsation damper because the screw had fallen out and I did not want to pay 185 dollars for another part that would just break again and leave me in flames. I also didnt want to wait for a banjo bolt to come in the mail .So we drilled out the end that the pd goes on of the primary rail and went to lowes, and would you believe we used a brass connector that screws into the rail and has a nipple on the end. So I just made a s shaped fuel line and ran it from that nipple to the rats nest. It works perfectly and only cost me .98 cents.

Then I came on my other problem which was with my wiring harness. For some reason I would turn the key to the on position and it would blow my EGI COMP fuse under the hood every time. Well after many weeks and lots of advice from HAILERS, it turned out to be the wires to the ACV. So I just took the acv off and blocked the hole off. I took apart the harness because the wires for it for some reason were melted togethor. I took them apart cut them way back and taped them off and re-assembled the harness. It started fine and never blew that fuse again.

I also had to bypass the heater core because it was clogged and rusted. Who needs a heater in new orleans? Plus this thing sort of generates its own heat inside the car.

I put on a greddy type rs blow off valve and it is perfect. Not as loud as the type s, but loud enough to make itself known.

I got rid of the pulley fan because the stocker was allowing the car to overheat. I ran the twin fans from a old school mr2.

We took out all the emissions, the a/c stuff. and the power steering stuff. I put a dual alternator pulley on the alternator. I also purchased tien springs and tokico struts and shocks to put on the car which I am working on now. I re grounded the block, the alternator, the starter and the ECU. I have no hesitations at all.
For some reason the car afte run to operating temperature would flood if yuo turned it off and try to restart it, but this was only when it was hot. So I was like wtf? It turned out to be that some jackal put regular champion spark plugs in the car and messed up the threads. So I had to rethread on of the spark plug holes and put the correct ngk plugs in and it ran much better and no longer flooded.

I am so happy that the car works. After 3 months of working on it it finally runs and drives. I cant wait to rub it in the guys nose that sold it to me. ahah .
I want to thank everyone in all of my posts that helped me. I know a lot about these cars but if it werent for you guys and this club, the car wouldnt run today.
Now I must go put in new cd player, wheels, fix the sunroof, and get her painted.
Well worth the $400.
Id also like to thank Marc E. Adam R. and my girl Bree.

not to rain on your parade or anything...but dont expect that motor to last long...from sitting they actually gain compression...and then go out suddenly after a short while....atleast from what i've always read...hence why JDM motors should be rebuilt

Why not get my hopes up? It was well taken care of. 60k miles. and then it was turned off. There is no reason that after everything was replaced on the motor, that it should last just as long as it would have had the guy never stopped driving it. can someone show me proof or incidents on here where this happened?
