1987 TII: Funky electrical issue

Hi,

I have had my 1987 TurboII for a couple of weeks now. I have had no problems with it so far except that its got this weird electrical problem w/ the interior lights and running lights.

When I go to turn on my accessory lights, they do not come on... the running lights, tail lights and interior lights do not come on. After hitting the dash a couple of times, they flicker kind of and sometimes go back out or stay on.

I have checked the illum fuse and checked all of the wiring visually and nothing seems to be out of place... has anyone else had this issue? its funny but annoying as hell wanting to drive around at night. lol.

any advice or ideas while I search?

It's probably the soldering contacts or points inside the headlight switch. I had this problem, took the switch out of the cluster, and resoldered the points. Now it works perfectly and hasn't had another slip up.

Loose connection FTW! as Bunchies suggested i would start there, if not its around the switch somewhere since that is were the power starts. If his idea doesnt work check that power is comming to the switch then it should help guide you to were the problem rests.

found the part in the FAQ section w/ the symptoms and problems with the switch. Thanks for the replies guys! I am going to pull it out and clean the contacts up and re-solder them if needed. Thanks again!

If it were me I'd go ahead and resolder them instead of clean them and then see if I still have problems. Cleaning them would be like plugging in your refrigerator and throwing all your groceries in. Resoldering would be checking that outlet to make sure you first have power before plugging it in, then throw your groceries in.

wow, weird analogy...
