1986 S4 N/A Bonez pipe and tranny mount.

Here goes another round of working on your back wondering what the heck am I doing to myself.

In this edition of automotive restoration and things that California wants to kill, .. . . We have the Bonez pipe and tranny mount bushing from Atkins.

The following is not helpful, or sane, and is only for entertainment purposes only.

New bushing from Atkins. . .. .Thought I would try the bushing route instead of buying the whole bracket.

pounding out the bushing . . . .what's not shown is the 1-1/8" socket that I used as the press Arbor. . . . . I pounded on it .. . I admit it .. . Be sure to wear goggles in case the socket explodes. .. . .You can see the socket I used in the next pic .. . . I had to use it for both insertion and extraction.

This is the press-in stage. . .. . .Getting it out can be done with a hammer and 1-1/8" socket..... Getting it in takes more care. . . .. .A combination of pounding on it, and using the vise, ultimately yielded good results. The rubber on the top of the bushing is surprisingly tough. . . After all is said and done, the bushing is where it needs to be.

I have a 1986 N/A 5-speed car. . . .The two bushings still looked intact so I just replaced the bottom bushing in the cross member.

After the beating into place. . . .Rubber still looks OK.

Looks beat down enough.

Comparison picture.. .. . .The front Cat broke recently. Because no Mfg. sent their front cat to CA for CARB cert testing, the only way to replace the front cat is to know somebody.

Notice the difference in size. . . 2 inch compared to 2.5"

comparison photo.. . .notice how a 2.5" gasket places on a 2.0" cat.

I added a Type K tc port and O2 sensor port to the Bonez pipe.

Sanding the rust off.

Amazon special .. .

Ready to go .. . .
