Angry 1986 Mazda RX7

My 1986 RX7 will turn over but will not start, but every once in awhile it will start.Replaced the fuel filter,injectors,spark plugs,coils.When car turns over,you smell fuel?Can someone please give me some ideas what I should try next??Thanks

Could it be that you're flooding the engine?
Not really sure here.. just a shot in the dark.

yeah it sounds like it. check up on an unflooding process.

by the way the unflooding process is different for an S4 ('86-'89) so be sure to check up on the right one.

pull the egi fuse it will work as a injector cut off try and start it with the fuse out then put it in and start it and it will run

No, seriously, push it down a hill, pop the clutch in first and give it some throttle once it turns over. It may take more than once if you've flooded it bad enough. Best way to do it.

EDIT: Oh, and get it going pretty fast to do it too.

Injecting Automatic Transmission fluid will build the compression when it's cold out and heavily flooded, then after you do that, put the antiflood switch in. The link above explains the procedure.

pull EGI fuse......

turn it a couple times to burn off excess fuel....

put fuse back in and start 'er up.....you may get a little smoke out your pipes, but it should go away after a couple minutes

good luck!

PS......you shouldn't even really have to give it gas when you are trying to start it, and if you do just barely press the pedal....that's how my 86 gets to gettin'!
