17's on Second Gen Suggestions

I have some 205\17\40 tires that are like new that I want to put on some wheels for my 87 GXL. Problem is that I don't know what will fit? Can someone tell me the offset that I need and how wide I can go?

Thanks,

Scott

Check the sig...

17x7 should be about right for your tires with a +35-40mm offset.

I ran 17x8" in my old TII with 245/45 Nitto's... I'm really sorry, but I can't remember the offset for you.

17's

Guys,

Thanks for the feedback. Any additional info on the offset or place to buy some that have 2nd gen would be great as well. I'm really stuck here because I get nervous with buying something that wont fit or rubs and I don't want to use spacers.

Tires are too SMALL for the FC.
Those are Honda tires.
It's going to throw off your speedo.
Unless you get like a 3" drop, it's going to look like *** cause of the big fender gap.

I have 17" wheels with 215's in the front and 235's in the back. Looks good. I had some 17s on my old FC with 205s all around and it looked pretty crappy. I had them on for like 3 weeks then gave them back.

tires should be
225/45/17 front
255/40/17 rear

it keeps the stock tire diamitor so your speedO is correct

here is some more tire info

the stock tire is
205/55/16
24.9" tall (really 24.87) 60mph

so replacement tires to keep the speedo near correct .
(when your speedo reads 60 your really)
225/45/17 25" 60.2mph
245/40/17 24.7" 59.6mph
255/40/17 25" 60.4mph

now
205/40/17 23.5" 56.6mph

Well I don't think 205/40/17s will look bad up front on some 17x7" rims but in back you need to run some 17x8s with 245/40/17s. I am running 225/50/16s on the stock rims right now.
