from 17-18 MPG to 21-23?

so lately my fc has been getting exceptional gas mileage.. i have some emissions stuff disconnected, no o2 sensor, "monster" streetport, straightpiped exhaust. this car runs rich as ****, and usually get's arounf 17to18 mpg.. but in the past couple of days i've been getting moderate gas mileage..

anyone experience this before?

To the OP, your tires are undersized.

did you do some weight reduction lately? start getting gas at a different location? i noticed that when i get gas from shell (i only use 93 octane ever) i get better mpg and response than when i get gas from say cheveron or racetrack. just getting it out there

This is the kid that drove us nuts when we told him to check his rear u-joints which were causing his vibration
He would not check, did not know enough to check, and said. I quote "**** that to removing the shaft at the flange to check the joints"
So do not waste any time on this little twit. I'm not even sure he is old enough to drive anyhow

hahaha i'm 19.. and i have an fc -___- otherwise, i wouldn't have u-joint problems huh?

you guys are funny.. anyways, the mpg change is definitely not a fluke.. as i only fill add $5-10 at a time, to keep track of mpg's.. and never drive to far. so there is definitely a change. maybe it is because i have been using different gas

I really would be interested in knowing the source of the whizzigas which enables you to get what we cannot. I can get 20 MPG ( a 4.5 liter gallon) in my Canadian car, 88 vert NA, and my gallons are bigger than yours, and that is the most I can wring out of it and I do not drive it anything like you torture that nice little sportscar like you have.

You have no way of knowing what your consumption is because your methodology sucks.
You need to run through several full tanks, then average the results to get a baseline number to work with.
Any anomaly- such as your 25% spike in mileage- is considered an outlier till a sustained trend shows it's not.

All conditions remaining essentially equal, a machine- any machine- doesn't suddenly perform significantly better for no reason.
The most likely cause of this "spike" is simple data collection error.
The least likely cause is your FC decided to become a Prius when it grew up.

Is your car still undercooled and vibrating?

I think your mileage increase is caused by the above two issues.

If your engine is undercooled, that means it is hot. We all know heat rises, so your hot engine is causing the car to be lighter. Now add on to this the vibrating somewhere in the car (NOT the u-joints!). The vibration is bouncing the car minutely into the air, the hot engine is helping to hold it there minutely longer. When your car is airborn, you have no rolling resistance.

The combination of a lighter car and momentary zero rolling resistance is why you're getting better mileage.

I think you have it nailed, Jet Lee, a totally new perspective on fuel economy, and brilliant, if I may say so.

This is how you check fuel economy.

>1996 honda civic hx, 5-speed
>has had more RX-7 drivetrain parts in it than you could ever imagine
>currently has 300lbs of batteries/catalytic converters and damaged radiators in the back
>still getting over 40mpg
