1500 RPM rev limiter??

My RX is having a problem, and I'm stuck at work. I have a 1990 non-turbo convertible. I drove it to work today, and everything was fine. When I took it out at lunch, I was driving along and power cut out. Since then I have not been able to rev it past 1500-2000 rpm. This means i can't take it on the freeway and get it home.

Anybody have any ideas as to why this could be happening. I'm stranded at work and I need help!!

Thanks in advance.

Woo.. Did a check engine light happen to illuminate at precisely the same time your power dropped?

Nope, no check engine light, just the power drop.

Interesting.. Normally that would indicate limp mode. Hmm.. Maybe you lost a primary injector? That would provide a distinct loss in power.

Is there anything I can do about this situation? Any obvious things I can check out? I don't have my tools with me, but I can get them. I'm trying to avoid having to have someone drive 40 minutes to pick me up.

Thanks again.

Well, accessing the primaries without tools would be impossible without tools, as you have to pull up the UIM. Does it idle? Was there an obvious change in idle? If you lost an injector it probably wouldnt idle either.

It starts and idles fine which is what is really throwing me off here. I don't know why this would have happened basically out of nowhere.

really wierd, my FC, which has a haltech computer, has sorta been doing the same thing, on and off a little... I thought it was something in the haltech tuning, but now I'm wandering if there could be something else doing it? it runs fine otherwise, just feels like its hitting a rev limiter at like 1500 rpm, and backfires sometimes.

at first I thought maybe it was the fuel pump, but there was plenty of pressure in mine...
could be possible for yours though....

Maybe a clogged fuel filter, can explain why it idles fine but not pass 2K, just can't flow enough fuel.

Just to bring some closure to this one, I went outside after work and she started right up, I got home with no problems. I'm going to pull the fuel filter just as a precaution.

Hopefully this doesn't happen again, but if it's happening to someone else too (Bigretardhead) maybe someone has encountered it before and fixed the problem. Let me know.

Thanks again to everybody who posted and helped, this board is great!
