1500$ for 85k 1989 GTUs what would you do?
Alright, so someone near me is selling a GTUs for 1500, everything checks out that it is a genuine GTUs however, the hood fender and front bumper are all done in on the left front corner, not extensively but they are not repairable. It is a 1989 thing runs mint, only problem is what is the possibility of frame damage if the above 3 things have been mashed. How easily does the frame get bent on this car? I already have a TII but when I saw an ad for 1500 negotiable for a GTUs of course I became interested, I have no pics but I would like to hear input to this rather silly question.

You will have to tear it apart to see the extent of the damage, anything can be fixed, but the cost of labor and parts will probably help to make a decision for you

If I was in Conneticut I would buy it, assuming all that is wrong is the body damage you mention. I've been looking for a coupe to strip out for the lightest weight possible. I know everyone on this site talks about how some mods are more expensive than their cars etc. and are really proud of how little they spent and thats good, but even if it costs 2 grand to fix it, I don't see whats so bad about having $3500 in a car that you love. Does everyone here work for minimum wage or something? The average price of a new car is $24,000!! a five year loan on a new car and you would pay double that $3500 every year for five years, and at the end of the five years you would have a car probably in about the same shape. If you like the car and have the money buy it. Its a 15 year old car and it will never be worth as much as the enjoyment you get from it. Good luck.

To get a price basis:
Get a repair estimate from a body shop or an insurance adjuster.
Subtract that from the KBB private party price in your area. www.kbb.com

The parts alone are worth more than $1500...
GTUs 4.3 rear end = $500
Running Motor = $500
Transmission = $250-300
Seats = $200
black interior = $250+ (Depends on condition)
Tail Lights = $150-200
Brakes/Calipers/Rotors = $150
etc...etc...etc....
then there is all the small stuff to put on eBay. If you have the garage space, bring it home. Odds are that it's fixable. If the cost to fix it to much, then part it out and make some cash.
