13bT what intercooler and bov?

hey guys i'm swapping a 13b turbo in my Datsun 510 and i want a front mount intercooler and a really loud BOV. what size should the intercooler be? and whats a good bov for it? also making my exhaust what size pipe should it be and i wont have a cat or resonator on it, just a muffler. So what muffler should I use?

any other suggestions would be a great help also.
Thanks Jeremy

Hey guy Get an intercooler that fits and doesnt leave lots of work for the piping. The larger the core the more air that has to get pushed through, so more lag.

A BOV depends on what sorta sound you want, have a listen to some mates cars and get an idea of what you like. Turbosmart, Trust and Greddy have a good range of BOV's to choose from.

Definetely dont go smaller than a 3" exhaust with a turbo setup. A good 5" muffler will sound awsome aswel. My car is NA and doesnt have much power yet it still makes lots of noise. I got a hi flow muffler just before my cannon

What intercooler you should get is relative to what turbo (Stock or after market) you have and what power output are you looking for. No one can give you a good answer unless we know this.

As for the BOV, HKS SSQ, Blitz and Greedy Type-RS BOVs make the nicest sound I have heard, as of yet.

Loud? TurboXS RFL can pierce your eardrums. Loudest BOV i've heard and that means it's louder than the HKS SSQ, Greddy Type-S, Greddy Type-RS. I guess you like attention =/ .

28x8x3 should be just fine for you. Not overkill, and still good for up to +/- 400hp.

Get bottom outlets if you are going FMIC, it makes for an easy installation.

FMIC? go as big as your front end opening and 2.5" thick
Loud BOV? TurboXs
Good BOV? HKS SSQV

You can go 3" turbo-back with a good muffler ( to keep the noise down) but it doesn't seem like you're trying to avoid attention so it's really your choice. Pretty much anything that is straight through will be loud so it's your choice. Check out www.corksport.com and post pics of the 510 please.

I've only see the Sr20 in the 510 in person. Never seen a rotary 510.

i have the HKS super sequential, it's pretty loud and has a high pitch sound. it can be heard from far away but most definitely the RFL is the loudest. with a stock turbo i wouldnt boost no more than what a 3" exhaust gives you, which will be around 10psi, any more than that and the turbo is not efficient at all. with 10psi i would just get a cheap ebay knock off IC, my friend has one and it works great, i think he paid $150 for it. it is 13" long, 6" high and 2" thick, that should be plenty. the IC piping i would go 2.25 to 2.5 inch, remember it's compressed air so you want it to ram into the engine. now if you go more boost then upgrade to 3". if you use the rx7 ecu then dont forget to get a FCD or you wont boost past 8psi. no other mods at this point are necessary, well i would at least get a walboro 255 fuel pump.

ya the turbo is staying stock and all electronics will be stock just doing the exhaust and ic, bov, and taking off the PS, AC and air pump.

You`ll get really tired!!! Much BOV sound sucks.. Not only because its rice etc bla bla bla but it is annoying to hear the "pshhhh" everytime you let of the throttle!
With the Tial 50mm i only get the "pshh" sound with high boost and it is big enaugh to get rid of the air fast

seabring tuning resonators are REALLY good for noise suppression, they give a bit of backpressure and are strait through so it maintains strait pipe (i have 1 on my 3.5 inch exhaust) , im running a BLITZ SS blow off valve, at 8 psi it is loud enough to set off car alarms infront of me makes my car shoot flames too ! heheh. (bov venting into atmosphere + walbro hi pressure pump + strait pipe and stock ecu untuned = fireballs) , suprized that my psi isnt spiking either i didnt even port my waste gate, as i go up in the thousands it creeps with it to 9 psi when im at 7

so if i put a bov and exhaust on it it will shoot flames?

An exhaust will do it. No need for a BOV.

well I'm not trying to shoot flames just wondering if it well don't think it will hurt any thing. i just want it to sound good it should be plenty of power for my wagon that is under 2200 pounds stock. not sure what the difference will be compared to the other 13b and trans for weight.
