13B-t running non tuobo duty?

It's my understanding that the 2nd gen RX7 in japan was only avaible with the turbo. I have a car with a blown motor, would it be a wise idea to take one of these "low mileage" motors and strip the turbo stuff off and use all the NA stuff and just bolt right in without any problems? Has anyone done this. Are there any other suggestions to get a decent motor for a decent price about $1000.00 or less shipped.

NAs were sold in japan as well as else where in the world. Getting hold of a JDM NA engien is difficult because there are not as many of these made after the initial production run as the Turbo engines.

The turbo will work as an NA, but you will notice a SIGNIFICANT performance loss.

I'd expect a significant performance increase, considering the best it will do on top end is 70 MPH in 4th gear, lol. Thanks for the info.

Well a turbo motor minus the turbo will be weaker than a N/A 6 port motor. Probably 30-40hp difference.

That i didn't consider.

If you check the for sale section, you can probably find an NA engine.

All 2nd gens in Japan were TIIs.

And yes, running the TII engine NA will result in a performance loss due to the low compression. You'll also have a problem getting the manifolds to match up, and you'll have to plug the oil feed and drain for the turbo.

if youre looking for drop in potential, look in the for sale section. since you are looking at the jdm 13bt, you may want to consider just doing the whole damn swap. even a low boost turbo motor is better than n/a... somewhat.
