i am planning on going stand-alone from the beginning, but i just want to choose the right one up front. i know someone local that can tune it for me and his car runs pretty well, so i trust that EMS. i also trust haltech, but it is pretty pricy, so i want to explore other options.

what are you planning to use the car for?

ill just get a standalone why bother splicing and dicing harnesses, seems a bit redundant to me though...
the car will be a sunday/sunny day driver, but i am sure that i will take it to the 1/4 mile every now and then. i have decided to go single from the start from all of the responses that i have gotten recommending it. hopefully i can join the RE group sooner than later. work is pretty crazy right now and should be through probably February of next year, but it is on just as soon as i can take a short vacation or even a weekend off.

Aside from building one yourself (MS) or being limited with an Rtek, Haltech is the cheapest you're going to find.

Look at the Motec Mhundred series and then complain to me about price

It turns on, looks pretty, and the software right now is beyond me. I still haven't actually started the car yet so I can't really comment.......... yet. It's ridiculous everything that I have hooked up to it.

Satan himself only knows

I was hoping to have it running by Turkey day but one of my turbo's is really unuseable. The turbine wheel is shot to hell. The bearings and seals all look good but the boost would be all wrong. So I'm debating what to do now. It's dependant on a few things. Regardless of what I do, it won't be done by turky day

I just got my Microtech in today. I'm hoping to be running in a month or 2. I need to order another fuel pump, make a surge tank and have my tank sumped.

so aside the other stand alones, the rtek w/SAFC assist wont do any good then right?

Technically, yes you could run the engine with these. You wont get the most out of the engine and if $1000 is a budget restraint then you would probably be better off keeping the stock engine in the car.

We prefer the Apexi Power FC, it was developed for the rotary engine, has a ton of support and virtually every rotary tuner is familiar with it. The other plus side is that it is a plug and play standalone, so you are not spending countless hours/days/weeks/months rewiring your entire car, just to find out that you read the manual wrong. We see this all the time with DIY Haltech and Microtech installations that are trailered to us for troubleshooting because the car wont start.

So you recommend using the S5 TII wiring harness with the FD Apexi Power FC ECU for this conversion?? I've been doing a little research on this (I'm reading the vert swap right on your website). I was gonna go with a Haltech E8, but I wouldn't mind tryin out the Power FC. Also, if I were to go this route, would you guys be able to load a base map on the Power FC unit for me if I send it in to you and don't have access to a datalogit? Thanks!

You can buy assembled MegaSquirt's for under $400. I ran one on my racecar when it was still NA...I like the software and they appear to work quite well. The MegaSquirt II has alot of features and the CPU is as fast or faster than most found in Haltech, Motec, etc.

On the 20B I used a Haltech E11v2 and now use an E8 on a 13B-RE, both are great units and have had no problems with either. I also used an E6X on a 13B-RE in my RX8 which does the job fine too. You should be able to find an E6K (old DOS based) for $5-600 and an E6X for around $800+. Haltech has pretty solid support in the US and there is a wealth of info available in the Haltech section of this forum along with a bunch of base maps.

What are you doing for a surge tank and what fuel pump are you running?

The whole point (I thought) of the RTEK was to eliminate the mickeymouse way the S-AFC operates

New Years would be nice. We'll see how this pans out. I'm not going with a GT35, even though thats what everyone told me to do. I'll be using 2 turbo's instead and getting the same if not more power and full boost hopefully around 2k rpm

That's what I don't like about hte PFC, to many things to buy and you're relying on a 20 yo harness.

Yes, we load base maps for people all the time, they just send the PFC to us when they are purchasing our adapter kit.

I'm having a local guy I know make me one, I just have to buy some bungs for it. Pumps are Bosch 044's. Overkill I know but I won't have to worry about fuel.

Three Bosch 44's. Dayum. That is definately overkill. I plan on running one 044 from the surge tank to the fuel rails. The lift pump is just an RP intank replacement which will be fine. No sump either..... right away anyhow.

Where are you getting your 044's and how are you mounting them?

I bought 2 pumps from http://www.jayracing.com/index.php?m...&products_id=1 and need to buy a 3rd since my original plan was to have dual in tank pumps. Not sure how I'm mounting them yet, will probably have something to do with cutting an alum pipe in half length wise and welding on some ears to bolt to the car and using some foam padding and stainless zipties to hold the pump to the pipe.

Jay Racing is where I found the cheapest as well. I like the idea of thier mount, just the excecution does not work for where I want to mount both the filter (Marren) or the pump. Still working on it though.

the reason that i say the haltech is pricy is because of the fact that no one around here tunes them. i have gotten quotes for 800-900 tunes since no one wants to mess with tuning here. wouldn't have a problem paying that, but i know that at that price, all they are going to do is install it and load a basemap and i can do that myself. in dallas, i could get a much cheaper tune, but that is a 4 hour drive away from where i am. the guy is good though.

a friend of mine tunes MS and i like how his car runs. it is cheap and everyone that has it loves it. haltech is the other management that i was considering, but, location location location.
