13b RE
so im thinking of screwing this NA crap and going turbo. Yep, thats right, doing the turbo conversion, Driveline and all. But insted of putting in a 13b T i was thinking of going with the RE, if i can find one complete. I know next to nothing about this engine though, can someone fill me in? and know where to get one? maybe i can have nippon motors find me one.

They use sequential twin turbos like the FD engines. They are rated at 230hp at 6lbs of boost on the stock turbos and stock ecu. The intake ports on the RE are the largest ports on any 13B ever made. It is basically a 20B minus the 3rd rotor and housing in it's design. The manifold design is the same minus the extra runners for the 3rd rotor. It is a very good engine with gobs of potential. It uses the same internal o-rings and so forth as the 13B-REW for rebuilding purposes.

i have heard that it's a real bitch to get in there though. Only a tiny bit easier than a 20b, but it basically has the same downfalls as trying to install a 20b, so i guess that means $$$. If anyone disagrees and can prove that wrong, then ill be more than happy to stick a 13bRE iny my N/A and buy one from fc3s.org

I will disagree with that completely. It isn't any harder than installing any other engine in my opinion. You need the following to install it into a TII chassis (assuming that anyone with an N/A knows what they need to get up to speed as a TII chassis)
Engine
Haltech E6K (or other aftermarket EMS, but I prefer the E6K)
engine mounts (we make them for half of the K2RD ones)
Front mount IC if you don't already have one.
Custom IC piping
Custom radiator piping unless you have a griffin radiator and it fits perfectly.
Downpipe
other odds and ends
Not too hard I don't think. The 20B has fitment issues with the steering and swaybars depending on how you mount it so it is a bit more complicated. I think that anyone mechanically inclined and with enough research can do any swap in an FC, as long as it's a rotary

I am currently installing a 13B-RE in my 89 T2. And it DOES take an above average knowledge of rotaries and keen sense of making things work. It doesnt just "drop" right in. Putting an RE in a t2 is very very similar to putting a 20B in an FC. You run into the same problems. The elbow wont fit if your planning on using the power steering, the intake pipes wont clear the hood, etc. What turbo are you going to use? If you use the cosmo turbos you have to have a custom downpipe made. Unless your crazy like i am, you have to run a haltech. Which is a big deal in of itself.
Ill be more than happy to help anyone out if they are installing one in their cars. But, be forwarned, its not a "drop in" sorta deal. If you want your car to run, just put a 13BT in it.

thanks for the heads up cym, but those are risks im willing to take. I knew about the downpipe and elbow, didnt know about the hood clearence problem, but thats ok. ill just make a new hood.
i live right next to a dyno and some great fabbers of exhasut so i have no fears there.

I don't agree with the hood clearance issues. There isn't clearance issues with our engine mounts as shown in the pictures for them. The TII hood fit right over it. We didn't install a N/A one to see if it fits, but after doing these CF hoods, the lower skin is the same on them so I don't forsee any issues with that either.

the parts are 5k +. That doesnt include labor, because im doing everything myself. And that doesnt include an ECU, because i have extra haltechs i can use. I dont know too many shops that would do a swap like this, mainly because its not done very often, and most people dont know all thats involved.
