hey guys i'm new here and thought i'd post one of my questions my friends..always told me to save to buy a turbo 2 rx7...but i'll never be able to get one at my age(16) right now i have a tercel i'm gunna sell it and buy a 89 rx7. well any way my question is.. is it worth it to go N/A with it? or turbo? if not for turbo should i just swap in the T2 motor in? i'm new to the rotarys i'm used to 4cyls ricecars lol...i'm ready to step into the rotary world.. thanks for lookin guys sorry if i sound like a big noob lol

my only suggestion is to keep your tercel and you'll save alot of money and headaches

 

you wont have enough money to do **** to it at all basically at age 16

headaches when it breaks for you unless your parents going to pay for some things

 

A n/a is always worth putting money into, its just how much time and money you have to dump into it

 

Keep your tercel if you can. Buy the Rx and build it slowly n/a, when you have the funds go turbo.

A butt Slow N/A rx7 is still faster than a tercel (excpet to the gas station)

 

well any way i think i'ma find another forum...its pretty bad i just joined and tryed to be nice about things and asking a few questions about the 13b. but all i got was ppl trying to be a smartass about it.

Alright, you're 16 and like RX-7's. That's a good start. Let me put it this way. If you don't mind the extra headaches and more time bussing (assuming your 93 tercel is more reliable - it would be about 6 years younger compared to an 89 RX-7) the RX-7 is a driver's car. The NA will require less money to maintain and is cheaper to run. If going NA, don't get anything lower than one with 5-bolt wheels and the 4-piston brakes. If you can wait and save up, get a TurboII. Even if you end up affording to drive it half as much, it's an all around better package, and you won't have headaches trying to swap a turbo into an NA. If you get an NA, you can always later put an exhaust, intake and when you know enough about these cars pull the engine out in the winter and get it streetported. I know I'm jumping around between NA and TurboII - it's because each has their advantages, with the NA winning more as budget goes down. There is no clear answer, you'll just have to see what's out there in the market near you and go for a nice, clean, well cared for car.

Now go look at some 7's and drive safe, do some organized legal competition, and don't practice **** on public streets. I say this because you young people have a bad rap, even though some of us older are worse

 

thank you pfsantos yeah i love rx7s. i dont mind having to work to work on it i love cars and working on them is just what i like to do but yeah i like N/A for the fact of being well n/a lol no poweradders just all motor.. i like the idea of buying a turbo 2 just hard to find in my area

Buy an N/A for sure. Read aaron cake's how to buy an N/A. Then go searching for one. You will love the rotary (esp if driving a tercel). This site is such a great support group. You just have to learn how to ignore the #$%^%$$ people.
Try to find a low mileage 7 then offer them a lowball offer That way you have extra money to buy upgrades! Good luck and welcome to the club---

Anyways........................... an N/A is more reliable and easier to work on. Both of those make it cheaper. At your age, I'd go with the N/A. In the long run, the TII is a better investment if you're looking for speed, but (once again) at your age, you only need to be going so fast or you'll kill yourself.

 

yeah my tercel ya know it has an earthshaking 83whp and 89ftq 4 speed manual lol..i was planing on buying a project car and build it up over time..and i didnt wanna buy no honduh or somthing cuz u see them every where here..and i hang out with my team and thay have modded bmws cobolt ss supras VR4s and orther fast cars and i have a tercel lol..so wean we go some where i'm usely the last to show up.

 

Pfft, don't sweat what you drive. I drove a 1984 VW jetta 2dr (50bhp 52ft/lbs tq) non turbo diesel until I was........actually I still have it and I'm 22

If you love 7's - then you'll buy one and want it to be FAST. You'll get tired of your N/A within a month garunteed.

Just start saving and buy a TII. Sure, a clean N/A 7 is a great car and totally worth putting money into - but if you want the epitome of what a 7 should be.......go turbo.

rx7 owners are harsh.. after being told at the auto part store that my cant be timed without a crank position sensor, im kinda agitated too... rx7 owners get low respect and are feared _ so if u can handle the flames from here and the world like its sposed to happen,.. then your lookin for the right car..

now the hard part.. rx7 car is potentially the most expensive time consuming and frustrating experience in your life.. if you bite into one or more.. keep something likethis in mind..
to fix rx7
1979-1985 base keep 1500 cash around for that day it breaks..
1979-1985 named model keep about 2000
for each generation above that simply double the emergency fund and add 15%..
if my math is wrong please correct me and keep in mind that includes 'Parts cars' (which are cheaper than buying new parts) and doing all the work yourself.

i am new to this forum, i have some experience with my wankel, but i usually break the transmissions... and rear ends... and no i cannot explain how the rotary works anybetter than the next member, your melon will need new headgaskets if your rx7 messes up and you really wanna drive it.. even if you have 5other cars...

 

i'm willing to give it all i got and suck it up and buy a rx7 and deal with it wean it breaks..i'll deal with being flamed. trust me i drive a freakin tercel to a parking lot with evos and STIs and all kinda of orther stuff i can take the burn lol

 

Once you buy an RX, the cold, cold fingers of obsession grip you by the nads and never let go. Then you'll think it's a grand idea to rip out your perfectly working N/A motor and swap in a Turbo engine! It's the grandest idea EVAR!!!!!

But seriously, save your Tercy and get an Rx. If I were you, I'd get an N/A at first and maybe do a swap later. Unless you can find a decent turbo. But having to depend on something that you tinker with as a daily driver could bite you in the butt. I DD a 240sx, mainly because it has an A/C, but really because I don't want to have the Rx blow up while I'm trying to get to work on time. Actually, I just drive it because it has an A/C. Save up some cash, and don't just jump at the first one you find. Wait until the perfect one pops up and then ****** it up. It takes a bit, but it'll work out.

 

I've had my N/A for 4 years and still love it. I do want a TII, but I don't feel like having the headaches associated with it for now.

You're wrong. For 3rd Gen's you double the 2000, then divide by 1.5, then times the result by 8425.29.

Hey Kid!! First I'd like to welcome you the club. Don't mind the other negative members and glad to hear your a rotary head.

if you are going to look for a rx7 and its should be a N/A its wonderful and quite reliable .
keep in mind....a little bit of hard work and some headaches here and there but it pays off at the end to see the car running beautifully.

 

I'd keep the tercel and buy a blown TII on the side.

Read the FSM over and over again.

Pull the engine yourself and have rotary resurrection rebuild the engine for you.

Get a walbro fuel pump and a rtek 1.7, 720cc secondarys and a turbo back exhaust.

Have fun. You'll have back up if it blows up.

 

This may be the smartest thing I have ever heard Tehmonkay say....j/k
but seriously, buy a TII that somebody has blown for like 800 bucks.... if that, then save up some money and build the thing back up, then will it not only be a superior rotary rocket..... it will be YOUR superior rotary rocket. Turbo over N/A anyday....

 

welcome to the forum man. hey just to let you know my first car is a rx7 i am 17 and i bought it when i turned 16. i have had it for a year now and love it it is na too. the only problem is that it has alot of millage make sure you get one with low miles, i am in search of a good but cheap s5 na. but have fun amazing car to drive it is my dd. i drive it though all weather conditions and quite frankly it handels preety good in snow

Start searching and saving for a good TII, or like Tehmonkay said find a blown one and build it up. It'll be much cheaper, you can do it as the cash comes in, and you'll learn a great deal about your car ( and maybe yourself...) But above all

KEEP YOUR DAILY DRIVER!!!

It'll come in handy when...
- oil cooler lines blow
- master cylinders die
- clutch slave cylinder dies
- PD cracks
- fuel lines need to be replaced
- you want to port...things
- ...
