13b manual vs 13b auto

I have found a 90 GTU for $400.00.The owner had the auto transmission replaced and then the engine-13b.The car still does not run and has been sitting for 2yrs.The last shop told her the engine installed is off a manual transmission and will not work on an automatic. Is this true?If a manual engine can be used on an automatic is there modifications that must be done?Re-flywheel,front counterbalance,ECU.Also I dont know what year the engine is.Thanks.

Dude bro, They are full of ****. The engine is the same fro mauto to manual, the ecu is the same too. The only thing that is different is teh tranny, flywheel, cross member, and drive shaft. And all GTU cars had a 13B....thats just a plain opd 1300CC twin rotar engine. If the car still has the original auto tranny, you can drop any NA 13B in there no matter what car it came from. The car prolly is just flooded or something. Buy it and start that bitch up. But let me just tell you the auto tranny in these cars sucks ***! You need a 5 speed. **** it's easy enough to convert an auto to manual...I did it to my 90 GXL.

Yep, people swap out the automatics all the time, the engine is no different for the 2 transmissions.

$400 is a nice price, running or not. Buy it, get rid of the heavier, slower, power-sucking automatic, and get a 5-speed in that GTU.
