Question 13,000 miles on rebuild, Should I do the ATF trick?

My compression numbers were something like

(frnt) 6.8 6.8 7.1
(rear) 7.1 7.2 7.1 give or take a couple tenths I cant remember. Are there ANY down sides to the ATF trick?

thanks

I would also say do the atf treatment immediately... The downside is all that atf ends up in your catalytic converters, probably causing them an early death. It also gooks up your spark plugs pretty well, have another set ready to put in after the treatment

Why in the WORLD would your 13k mile rebuilt engine have such LOW COMPRESSION!

Thats a new engine dude!

The atf wont hurt, but whats going on with your car?

I would be VERY CONCERNED about this discovery!

Will the ATF trick automatically kill your cats or will it take a while? Because I am going to be getting rid of my cats in a lil bit anyways but want to do the ATF trick. O ya, what is up with such low compression on such a new rebuild. Go have he place that rebuilded it check it out.

ATF wont automatically kill the cats.
Just use it sapringly.

I dropped my downpipe and turned the engine until i pumped all but a thin fil out of the engine.

I just used ATF to revive an engine yesterday.. I recommend taking the plugs out (all 4), and cranking the engine.. Maybe 5 times, 5 seconds each.. Make sure your EGI fuse is pulled so you don't spark or inject fuel. This pumps a LOT of the ATF out of the engine, thereby making less smoke..

If you're paranoid about the cats, and don't care about your (or anyone else's) hearing, you can drop the exhaust at the manifold.. Won't hurt your cats, but it'll be loud as *****.

Could I just drop my main cat? I mean will I still be able to drive my car for a few months if I leave the cats on? The reason I worry is becasue I can't afford to mess my car up by doing the ATF trick as this is my only transportation. Thanks.

Of course...

the whole point was to tell you that you could keep the ATF from your cat until time to start the car.

I did the downpipe thing to get as much out as I could.
then I re attached, and started it.

It smoked like hell and was over 20 minutes later.

Spec for new is 9:1, or 9,1:1 if you are lucky
I have a 90K engine, and it's at 7,9/8/8,2 front 7,8/7,9/8 rear. Sure, it could use the ATF, but I think its just normal wear of the seals.
Anyway, anything below 7 is near-death, and anything close to 6,5 is just the final dying whisper of the rotors...
