12.5 second????

i recently bought an 87 Turbo II. I am pretty sure i got ripped off, but thats besides the point. The guy told me that the car ran a 12.5 sec. quarter at 10lbs boost. Here is what i know to be done with the car:
HKS intake
Turbo XS 3" dual exhaust
air pump, power steering removed
power pulley set
short throw shifter

as far as i know, the motor and turbo are just rebuilt stock w/ a mild street port

my question is... is there any way that this car is really a 12.5 second car, or did the guy bulls**t me???
thanks

thanks again

Short answer? No. Not with a stock or even hybrid turbo. Just to give you an idea of what kind of mods net what kind of times, here is my setup: Stock block, stock turbo, 760 primaries, 850 secondaries, Racing Beat turboback, hks intake, GReddy FMIC, and a microtech lt8. With that I ran a 13.6@103.3, with a horrible 60' time (2.1, stock suspension is neat for dragging huh?).

If it's a stock turbo then no.

A t3/4 hybrid could get you close though. Maybe a high 12 (like 12.8-12.9) with some really good driving.

I could see that with a standalone maybe, but not with an Safc, also I don't really consider a .4 second variance 'close', which was the best I've seen with a hybrid stock turbo (12.91).

ahhh yeah true, a standalone would definatly help get the times lower.

Yeah I am hoping to break into 12's as long as I get some new tires in time so I can get traction, I don't expect to be well into 12's but a 12.9 would make me extremely happy.

Any extreem weight reduction that you don't know about? Did he have drag slicks? Did he say he ran that or that the car could run that.

Because the car could run that.... if you put a bigger turbo on. That may have been his justification for lieing to you.

I built a 10th anny for a customer of mine. Large SP, stock fuel, stock ecu, stock turbo and IC, removed emissions, TB mod, RB turbo back exhaust, cone filter, e-fan, large Sp. HE ran consistent mid 13's (according to him) until he broke his diff mount. After reinforcing that weakness, he said he let one of his friends run the car, he nailed the launch, and ran a 12.8. There is no proof of this, but I tend to believe it.

I had the same setup, only i was on a stock s5 block, stock turbo, even with the stock catback and i could beat him by about 3/4 a car or so in the 1/4 mile. And I know other guys (you know them too) that ran high 12's that i could regularly beat. That engine blew up however, i dont know if i can attribute it directly to overboost. Either way for what it was it was a screamer. So you guys that say it cant be done, need to realize that psi changes can do alot.

wow man, you might want to go tune or something. Cause those times suck dick for what your setup is.

i ran a 13.6 with my turbo manifold hanging off my block... literally held on by 1 nut. atleast a 1/2 inch gap between my block and my turbo. And i had drove it from the bay area (california) all the way to seattle (washington) right to the drag strip.

So either tuning ... or .. i dont know. lol

There are a few things that need to be ironed out, the 60' was horrible, my turbo is dying, and I've only tuned the afr, I've yet to have access to a dyno and tune timing.

a friend of mine has a to4 hybrid turbo on his 88 turbo II with stock TMIC, streetport, ported wastegate, stripped interior, full roll cage, road race suspension( really bad for launching cause it was so freakin stiff all he did was spin), chipped computer, straight back exhaust with a fart cannon, and 3" DP, and he ran 12.3 seconds in the 1/4 mile at 2200 feet above see level.

Forgot to add he had 720 secondaries and stock primaries.

Crap I nearly beat that in my '90 with way less mods.. matter of fact I trapped a higher speed.

you can hit mid 12's with a upgraded turbo, fuel pump, injectors, s-afc, slicks, boost controller, and and intercooler i would bet.
