10th Ani - I thought rare?

I have had a 10th Ani for sale for the past month on the parts trader and no bites. I had a guy working on a trade deal but this thing has got to move. I thought these things were rare? I need to turn the car for the cash to continue my project car. First race is approaching quick. I have been asking $1000.00 cash. Have I been asking to much? Needs motor and paint - All turbo stuff is there though. Just buy a jap spec or used motor and have the car sprayed and you got a 10th. I have even intertained interesting trades to get me closer to the parts I need: Turbo II suspension, Gearbox, 86-88 dash with harness, windshield etc... I may just have to gut this thing for the parts I need. Just kidding. Really though. You got a 86-88 turbo II that needs a motor, and something to go with it, Lets do some bartering.

10AE's arent all that rare. No where near as rare as GTUs'. I know a guy that wrecked his, and bought another one. A 87-88 T2, regardless of whether its a 10AE, thats tired and has a blown motor is worth about 500 bucks. 1k If it has nice paint and the interior is in great shape and comes with some goodies. You can easily spend more money getting the car running than the whole car is worth.

Maybe not as rare as a GTUs or a CYM, but still pretty rare. Only 1500 were made. And after 13 years, who knows how many are still on the road and not part of a scrap heap by now.

Maybe he's asking a little much, but it's still a 10th AE shell. It's rare.

Re: Shell

This thing is way more than a shell. Full interior, complete roller with all the turbo parts ( No crack in the turbo manifold), Full Power everything, cooling system is in tact, AC lines not disconected, Factory exhaust, Aftermarket speakers and amp.

I have yet to see another tubo II that needs a motor posted any cheaper.

How many miles on the chassis? Do you have the window sticker?

With a blown motor, I'd agree that the potential value is somewhat compromised even though they made only 1500. I still have to wreck 1499 of them, and find someone who wants to pay a premium for mine

Fact is they just had a few cosmetic upgrades, mechanically they are just like any other 88 T2-- kinda sucks in that regard.....

I can't understand how they are so rare. I see them for sale all the time. yet I never see 89-91 turbo II's for sale. the week I bought my car there were at least 2, maybe 3 10th AE's for sale in the same week, same city!!

is the 1500 a total north america? or just USA ?

I have heard the number break down for North America...but dont remember if that was just U.S.A. or U.S.A. and Canada. I want to lean towards saying that it was 1500 total for North America and that is including Canada.

Scott 89 t2: You say you see them all the time, 2 or 3 for sale when you bought your 89 TII. How many have you seen since then?( I am going to assume a lot since you said you see them all the time)
Out of the 1500 there are only 400 something 10th ANNIVERSARRY RX-7s left. Where I live I have only seen one other than mine. I have lived here almost 2 years and only seen that one(mine makes 2). I lived in Mobile Alabama before I lived in Birmingham. Since I have been into cars (going on 9 years, was 15 now 23..well in a few weeks) I have never seen any in Mobile. I know the two places I have lived doesn't constitute the rest of North America but it counteracts scott seeing them all the time in Canada. Oh by the way Scott I am just kidding around...no offense intended. Just trying to make my car go up a little in value.
I dont know how accurate that 400 something figure is. I have heard the 400 something and i have heard in the 600 range. None the less they are still up there in the rare catergory. I got my 400 something figure from feared 7, he is also on the forum and used to own a 10th AE. Can't remember where he said he got the info from but can find out if any one wants me to.
If memory serves me correct(which it probally doesn't) i think he said 452 left...but dont think there is a real way to ever really really know...there is a sight where you can register ur 10th AE.
Well way tooooo much rambling.

Oh some more stuff.

They (10th AE) probally wont go up in value at leat for another 10-15 years maybe more, if they go up at all! Plus I would say there arent to many in excellant condition around anyway. I have only seen a few that were immaculate condition. What do you expect from a 13 year old plus car. Also like someone stated earlier there are no power differences between the AE TII or a Regulr TII just cosmetic.
sory for ramblng again.

there I'll make you feel better. I just did a quick search and couldn't find any for sale in canada

but I couldn't find any turbo II's for sale...

I think I've only seen 2 on the road in the last year. (wouldn't know what it was before then ). and I know somebody else who owns one now. but maybe all 3 were the same, who knows.

There was a 10AE for sale in Calgary last week..
I know of at least 5 other 10AE's in calgary, plus mine.. that's six.. there are a few more in edmonton as well..
in fact, I have only ever seen 2 89+ t2's and have come across more 10AE's then T2's (a whole load of NA FC's though)

Shrug... sometimes it makes me wonder about the whole 1500 limited production numbers going around..

As for 10AE's having all available options.. I think that was hoowey as well.. Sure, some extra white paint, some extra badging, a fancy key, leather interior (which was an option on any other T2) momo shift **** and steering wheel.. but that was it.. what about the other options? Like a rear hatch cover?? (Those were offered at the time) how about the factory aero kit?
I actually prefered the steering wheel from my 87 T2 over the one in the 10AE.. the one in the 87 was much thicker.. meatier then the 10AE wheel... oh yeah, one other option that left out was factory CD player.. .they jsut stuck the radio/tape/eq package in there...

It's too bad.. if they didn't want to do anything mechanically to differentiate the 10AE from normal T2's (Woulda been sweet if they made it infini spec), they could of at least made the front and/or rear bumper covers a little diffrent..

I do a lot of hunting for TurboIIs for friends and potentially another for me, and I've come across quite a few 10AEs over the years, way more than 89+ TurboIIs.

At first I thought 10AEs were rare and I was gonna jump at the opportunity to get one, but I'd rather have a newer one, after all, if I got a 10AE, I'd feel bad moding it. =P

The 10th AE uses the same paint as the 89+ white rx-7s, but they got the nice looking glass. i parked my 90 white gxl next to one. The glass made it stand out

10th AE's are rare. There are more than 60,000 FC's out there and only 1,500 AE's. 1500 is a small production run for any car.

Still, just because it's rare doesn't mean it's worth more. Some rare cars are worth a lot because people look for that particular car. Not too many people are looking specifically for AE's. I bought mine when I was looking for a Turbo FC. I couldn't find a good 89-91 T2 and I really dislike the black molding and sucky colored cloth interiors of the 87-88's. The AE then became the car of choice; Black leather interior and body colored molding with all options. I still would've bought an 89+ if I found one.

I've done quite a bit of research on this subject and I estimate that there are fewer than 300 of these in drivable condition and even fewer in the hands of enthusiasts. There may be more that are trashed. This forum is going to obviously attract enthusiasts and owners of these cars. The only way we will ever know is if all the 10th AE owners register their cars at the following sites:

http://2ndgenrx7.freeservers.com/10thregistry.html
or
http://www.k2rd.com/reg.html

Cheers!

I am also going to disagree that the color of the 88 10th AE is the same color as other RX-7 of the same year. All other RX-7's of the 88 vintage were NOBLE WHITE. The 10th AE is CRYSTAL WHITE. Here is a repeat of a thread I replied to regarding the 86-88 color schemes:

Here are the colors from the Mazda RX-7 Showroom Brochures for each respective year:

86 - Dover White, Pure Red, Arctic Silver (M), Tornado Silver (M), Satin Gold (M), Royal Maroon (M), Saphire Blue (M)

86 1/2 - same as above, but Brilliant Black was added for the Turbo model only

87 - Noble White, Sunrise Red, Arctic Silver (M), Tornado Silver (M), Satin Gold (M), Royal Maroon (M), Saphire Blue (M), Brilliant Black (Turbo only)

88 - Noble White, Crystal White (10th AE only), Sunrise Red, Arctic Silver (M), Tornado Silver (M), Satin Gold (M), Claret (MC), Saphire Blue (M), Brilliant Black

M= Metallic and MC = Mica

To confirm this, I would need someone with a 88 NOBLE WHITE to post their Color Code.

Does anyone have the Colors from the 89-91 vintage and does anyone have the white color code from a white 89-91?
