10TH AE goes 110mph at 3500rpm

am i nutts or blind?

this is my 5th rx-7, own an 88 Turbo II, 89 vert, 91 GXL, had 88 GXL.
i cant remeber what the turbo did in 5th at 3500rpm. but i know the vert was right at 87mpg because it was in limp mode and i would rest the rpm right at 3500 to cruze.

Going down the interstate on my way home i look down and am only at ~2900 rpm, so i raise on up to 3500, look over and its on 110! wtf? this of course is a manuel as all 10thae's are turbo IIS and all turbo IIS are not automatic!

now i was under the assumtion the 5th gear is lower in a turbo for more accel rather a high top speed, this is crazy!

i should mention i have 245/45/16 rubber on 3rd gen rims. although i know this effects my acutal speed not what is read. therefore stock tires would yeild the same result.
anyone else got a clue?

Stock ratios would put that at 82.95 MPH, which is about 133 KPH, so 'm not sure what's going on.

i also noticed the LSD tag on the drain plug is gone, but it still looks like the stock 88 lsd.

this car still has the stock mazda air box and all, no mods beyond a mom n pop replacment exhaust. and speakers...

Maybe fifth gear is doing something screwy to the speedo gear, or you're encountering an electrical problem of some sort, but I assume it didn't sound or feel like you were doing 110, correct?

well i was flying by cars, with my wheel size id put acutal speed around 95-100 far from 82.

but thats not a valid *uestion, everyone knows 110 feals like 70 in an rx-7.

Well at 3500 RPMs in 5th, my 88' GTU (pretty close to an 10th AE with stock tires and weels) was doing about 80 - 85 mph. But since I've added my cat-back I can do 80 under 3500~

I think its probably an electrical problem.

A cat back changed your gear ratio?

tuning cannot-
increase displacment
change the color of your car
change a givin gear ratio to another, its a physical part that would be swapped.

True true, I'm to expirenced in cars or rotaries for that matter. But I'm learning

Anyway my main point was that my GTU when it was stock did not do 110 at 3500.

Well you would know it if your car was going that fast, i had my jspec doing 230km/h at 6500rpm in fifth and that was defintely noticeable, 110mph is about 190 or so isn't it? Your car would have to be working a bit to go that fast

your speedo has to be screwed up. Your tires are bigger than stock... it should be reading too slow, not too fast.

no, my tires are smaller then stock. the rims are 1 inch bigger but the rubber is low profile which makes them over all about 3/4 inch shorter when put side by side on level ground.
they are considerably wider though

110 is 180kph.
230kph is 145, my first turbo II did 167(speed trap verified). i've gotten stupid and 'cruzed' at 120-130 for about 22 miles with out slowing down. rotary powah.
