1-1 1/2 inch of no response coming from the gas pedal

As the title states I don't get any reponse from the first inch/ inch and a half of my gas pedal when i step on it. I recently toyed around with the cruise control cable that goes to the throttle cable. I have no ideas on what to look for when looking at the throttle cable to see if everything is in order.

Any tips or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

The cruise control cable shouldnt have anything to do with it even though it's loose as hell. I would check the tension on the throttle cable and tighten it up if you need to.

Did the throttle cable come out of the half circle groove thing that its suppose to ride in? My pedal feels that way whenever i got the hood poped and rev it up and the cable comes out but is still connected.

I'd be willing to bet that your throttle cable is not "fixed" in position either at the back of the UIM where you should have the grommet slipped into the mounting yoke, or at the firewall.

Where/How do I acutally do the tightening of the throttle cable because there is a bit too much slack on the cable and have no idea where to actually tighten the damn thing.

And also would it be too much harder to replace the cable all together because when I started to look closer at the throttle cable I noticed that the area located right above the alternator pulley was extremely worn down, I mean it ate thru the black plastic, the small metal "o"s and about 50-65% of the cable itself. I'm guessing thats where the extra slack came from.

If anyone could take me through the steps it would be great.

I dont think the black plastic covering has anything to do with the slack. Mine is all cracked up and you can see the small metal rings around it.

You can tighten the throttle cable with a 12mm wrench at the back of the UIM. There are two 12mm nuts that sandwich the rubber donut that holds the cable to the throttle cable bracket. What you want to do is turn the one closer to the driverside in the tightening direction and then do the same to the top one until the cable has good tension. Just pull the cable with your finger at the end back of the UIM manifold and see how much play there is and then adjust it until pulling it very very slightly moves the throttle plates.

It might be easier for you if you slide the throttle cable out of the bracket and then loosen them.

Hope that helps.

Yea but in my case, the cable itself has been worn down and is now just 2-3 strands left instead of a full thick cable.

And maybe I can describe my situation better because after checking the tension of the cable, its good some places, but very poor at other places.

Tugging on the cable at the UIM and Intake Areas I feel like I have pretty good tension for it only takes like a 1-2mm tug before I see movement from the half circle groove.

But when I tug on it from any place after where the pulley ate up the cable such as near the battery, I need about a 1-1 1/2 inch tug before getting any movement from the half circle groove.

And also, after I tug on the cable from any location to the "WOT" position and check the gas pedal, the rubber stopper thing is resting on the pedal as it should be, but when I depress the pedal and release, the rubber stopper doesn't travel with the pedal when I let off.

Does this still sound like something adjusting the tension will fix or is it time for a new throttle cable altogether.

Thanks for following up and seeing me thru this stan.

No problem. If there are only a few strands left in some places I would just replace it. It's not too bad on your wallet for a new one or a used one from a junkyard. It'd be better than having it snap on you one day when you go WOT. Just make sure its not kinked somewhere along the way causing one section to have tons of slack and some to be tight.
