Sounds like the cable that hooks up to your intake meter is disconnected or you have a large vacuum leak. Just check your engine bay for loose wires or hoses and you'll more than likely fix the problem.

my car is having the same problem right now. I would get it to start then it would rev close to 3000 then shut down. instantly. i was thinking it might be the CAS but thats not it.

When starting cold, my FC does the same, But revving to 3k is normal for all fc's, but it will stay at 1k rpm while warming it then drops and shuts off, i have to do it 3 times and sumtimes gas a bit to stick it at 1k rpm.. n then its fine after that.. maybe after you start it, and goes down from 3k hit the gas a lil n see if it'll stay on.

Then try jumper the fuel connector clip on the strut tower. After you have made sure the AFM "air flow meter" is pluged in. Check over the system for obvious majot leaks. the reving to 3k as stated is NORMAL this is becuase of the AWS system " Accelerated Warm up System" Please view the FAQ on the top of this page for acranyms. Yout TPS would have absolutly nothing to do with this.

i tried hitting the gas the whole time tapping it. and when it hits 3000 it shuts off for good. so hitting it again does nothing can you put up a pic of the jumper fuel connector

The engine revving to 3000 for quick sec or 2 is natural. it is the cold start assist that mazda put in.
FOR THE NEWBS, cold start is NOT a vacuum leak, a vacuum leak would lead to bad and low idle rpm, not visaversa, if so, please explain how, i would like to here this..................
COLD START

my airflow sensor is fine. its getting air.

i CAN keep it above 3000 by hitting the gas but if i let it go below 3000 it dies
