Thumbs up *update*(uh-oh: Rebuild help--no oil pressure...?)

So, I'm in the process of *attempting* to remove the front cover, but it's a PITA. I cannot get the main E-shaft bolt off... How do I remove this?

I was hoping to remove the oil pan, so I could have that gap at the bottom of the front cover to stick a screwdriver in and stop the counter-weight from spinning while getting the main bolt out... But I didn't realize that taking the oil pan off is going to be WAY too difficult...

I need help in getting the E-shaft bolt out... Any suggestions? I tried putting the car in gear to act as a ballast against my yanking but I'm worried because it feels kind of weak... Will I break something in my tranny etc. if I put the 65+ psi against it needed to remove the bolt?

Also, RR, you mentioned to HAILERS that it was not the E-shaft key, but the small, miniature oil pump key that was the suspected culprit... Is the key your speaking of the one that is like 5mm. x 5mm. x 50mm.? (about) Pretty much; little, skinny and longish, that drops in through the oil pump gear, sprocket thingy's? Or am I looking for a different key?

Any help, or anything just to reassure me that I'm on the right path would be awesome... Thanks guys.

get a long breaker bar place it on the front hub bolt and rotate it clockwise and rest it on the frame so it is perfectly perpendicular to the bolt head, make sure it has a flat surface to rest on or if the bar is long enough rest it on the ground. have everyone clear of the engine compartment and crank the engine over.

Is there anything that needs to be reconnected (besides the battery) before turning the car over?

Also, should the car be in neutral or in gear?

thanks

all you want to do is just have the motor turn over..it will break the bolt loose for you. it won't take much so don't crank to much

Ok, success. The bolt came undone with one engine pulse (the first thing that's gone right in a while, lol). Everything looks OK... The long key was out a *little* bit, but was definitely in place. What should I look for while I'm in here?

Oh, and the o-ring is in place.

Is there anyway I can crank the motor with the front cover OFF to see if the chain is moving correctly? I really don't care if oil gets everywhere if the reward is a working oil pump...

With the front cover off, I Grabbed the counter-weight with my hands, turned it and the chain turned as well as the pump and e-shaft etc. SO, everything is working there... I also reached into my oil pan, and the pick-up tube is there as well...

So now I know that my pump is installed correctly and should be working... What is next in line for checking? How would I inspect my oil pressure regulator etc.?

I popped out my OPR and to the best of my knowledge it's OK.

My Dad turned the key and cranked while I observed the motor with the front cover off and everything spun with the E-shaft.

There was no movement from the oil in the oil pan, but I assume it's not going to be a visible and violent suction when the oil is sucked up through the tube... Or should it be?

I think I'm going to install the front cover, connect the 2 oil lines (turbo and oil cooler) and crank for a LONG time and see if I get any oil in the filter... Anyone think there's stuff I need to do before going back to cranking?

Ok, here's an important question; how do I now *tighten* the main E-shaft bolt after putting the front cover back on? I.E. what should I use as ballast?
