*sigh* Bad oil leak...

I changed my oil today and everything went smoothly except I dropped the drain plug in my bucket of oil. I tightened everything down correctly and let it idle for a bit. I went and ran some errands and such and went out to my g/f's house. It sat for two hours there and then I drove home. About an hour later I went outside to get some receipts to balance my checkbook and there was at least two quarts of dark oil under the car. Argh!

I pushed it into the garage and jacked her up. The drain plug is tight and not leaking any oil. I checked the filter and it is tight as well. There is tons of oil dripping off the crossmember though.

I had this problem the first time I changed the oil in the car but not since. I'm guessing when the last owner rebuilt the engine they didn't put a gasket around the oil pan. I know you have to lift the engine to put in a new gasket. I really want to avoid from doing this because I'm not exactly a guy who has free time and access to what I need.

It looks like I will be needing to do this however, unless someone has a suggestion otherwise. How hard is it to do this and is there anything else I should check/replace while I have the engine up? Anyone have any tips for me?

Any help would be great.

Thanks!
Mason

take of your fan and shroud and take a real good look at your front cover area, if that much oil is coming out you should be able to see where its coming from fairly easy.

Mkay... How should I seal it up or do I need to replace the gasket? Someone suggested that I clean up the area really well with degresser and then use somethink like... argh... I can't remember what he told me.

I asked my automotive tech teacher about it when I first had the problem and thats what he suggested but I can't remember what he told me to seal it with. This was like a year ago.

First find out where its coming from and take a picture if possible, then we'll go from there could be something simple or could be bad.

Which reminds me i have a slight oil leak too i should probably attend to.

what i did to find my oil leak was i took a whole can of degreaser sprayd all around the oil pan front cover and everywhere oily and greasy on the motor, let it set for 20 min then sprayed the whole motor down with a medium pressure hose, then let it all dry, and wow the motor looked brand new!!!
then i took off the fan and shroud, then i started the car and started running around the engine looking for the leak!!!
