Well I'll be! Learn something new everyday.

Why would they offer it as an "option"
The car either needs additional cooling or it doesn't. Extra fan for A/C equipped cars? Wierd

Pretty much every car ever made with A/C has an auxiliary electric fan, because the main fan(s) activate at too high a temp to be useful for the A/C, which needs constant airflow to work properly.

Makes perfect sense, if the vehicle has a mechanical fan. For cars with electric fans already why is an aux fan necessary? It would simply be a case of having the ECU turn the fan(s) on whenever the A/C is activated, if not already running. Neither of my FC's, both equipped with A/C, had this aux electric fan.

Good luck finding a decent one, it's usually hard to get a good one. Although montgomery mazda sells new ones for about $140, i think, but for an S4.

Some cars do that, some cars have two fans used for the two purposes, some cars that have two fans run one for A/C and both for engine cooling, and some (like the FD) have two fans that run at mulitple speeds to suit varying A/C and cooling loads. Lots of ways of doing it.

Neither of my FC's, both equipped with A/C, had this aux electric fan.
Unlucky you, it makes quite a difference to low-speed A/C performance.

That looks very nice, RRTEC, but why are you hijacking 88rxn/a's thread?

Update

removed
today i removed the:
power steering pump and bracket
power steering cooler lines (going manual steering)
i also untapped the battery cable's and the rest of the bundle that was in the line. i will be relocationg my battery into the cabin. all plugs were marked with a white piece of sticker so when i install the rebuilt motor it will be an easier installation. once i get the right size bolts for the power steering to block off the exposed fluid, i am going to clean the bay and remove the rest of the parts and brackets to prep it for paint.

after some help from a buddy i managed to get the passenger side electrical harness free and out of the way for paint along with the headlights and motor. pretty much empty bay now
while we were at it we cleaned most of the oil off the steering so when i remove it and de-power it i wont be covered in as much oil and crud!

**edit** as you can see we also started re-looming the harness and removing un needed plugs and taped them of at different lenghts in the harness along with more tape around the ends to avoid any contacts made.
i will probabyl start another thread on the build up and post a few pics in here when the interieor gets gutted .

1. How did you go about discharging the a/c?
2. Do you want a manual rack? I've got one.
