On 1st gens. Not sure which aftermarket alternator would fit a 2nd gen easily though. Shouldn't be too hard to find out with the measurements most manufacturers provide. Just find one with mounting ears close enough so all you need to do is add spacers and modify the existing bracket without having to worry about pulley offset.

Other options
I just got done installing an alternator from an 03 Durango 160A version to my T2. You have to run an external regulator to make it work but its not very difficult at all. Keep in mind that you also have to get bigger B+ wire in order to not smoke your electrical.
The job was pretty straightforward. The Durango has a slightly wider mounting base that required the use of a file. I had to reduce it by probably 1mm. The overall mounting is the same. My T2 is a work in progress so I am still not sure if the UIM will clear the alternator. I will post pics if people are interested. I believe the alternator is Worldwide PN 12329. You have to also obtain an old voltage regulator since these units were regulated by the ECM. I used a voltage regulator from a mid 70's Chrysler. Powermaster rep recommends using a Standard motor products regulator or a OE mopar regulator. Stay away from made in China regulators.

I put in a PowerBastards alternator.simple one wire install.
I had to shave off part of the alternator on the inside part of the mounting ears probably about 1-2mm in order to make it fit in the slot. That took about 5 minutes with a file.
The other thing I have to do later is remove some of the unnecessary levers from the throttle body. If you have the throttle body mod done this should be easier.
The last thing is wiring the unit. The external regulator is pictured. The regulator needs ignition source on once side and the other side is a field that goes to the alternator. Simple. The alternator also has two wires. One goes to regulator field and the other to ignition power as well. The stock rx7 harness already feeds ignition on one of the wires.
