Question $3,000 rebuild????

Just got a quote for rebuilding my '88 and it's $3,000. Is that reasonable or am I being smoked? It comes with a 24 month warrenty.

Thanks for your opinions.

Normally the rebuild kit is like 900 and labor for taking the motor out and putting it back in (thats w/o taking it apart) is like 10hrs. So it depends how much they charge for labor per hour.

That sounds a little high. Where are you having it rebuilt? A few guys floating around will do it for closer to $2000.

It's being done in Santa Barbara. Everything here is very expensive.

If it's 10 hours for labor, that means they are charging $200 per hour!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone want to rebuild an engine????

Santa Barbara

If it's here in Santa Barbara it's probably being done by Mariah Motorsports. These guys are rx7 ninjas however they definately are
more expensive than the average mechanic, but it's ultimately worth it. If I were ever to go to a rotary mechanic they would be top on my very short list.

The parts are gonna cost much dinero for you to do a complete swap, but i guess 1500$ isnt bad considering how much stuff you need to change in the car to convert it from a N/A to a turbo.

$3k with install isn't bad, but if it's just the motor, you can do better - www.pineappleracing.com

Remember, Kevins is a BUDGET rebuild and will not have the compression or Longevity of say... a PINEAPPLE. You do get what you pay for. Kevin is a good budget choice but it is many used parts.

You can do a 2 year Pineapple for 1995

Yes, it the guys at Mariah Motorsports that are giving me the quote. Thanks for the information. I know they have been around for years.

Figure it's that or buy something that will have the same or worse problems in a short time.
