I replaced the starter in mine from the local parts store, and it was re-manufactured but at 125, I'm not going to complain

I just looked at AutoZone and $179.99 for one with a core charge $55.00 and $89.99 with a core charge $55.00 for another.

Victoria British sells them for $179.99 with $60 core charge.

If it's a refurbished one, you need a new mechanic. Mine was a rebuilt for about $160? I remember the total bill (including labor and sales tax) came to about $260.

If the starter is a new unit from Mazda, I think that's about right.

Usually the only part that fails is the pinion gear. Rebuild it. If the problem is electrical, buy a new one.
