definitely considering just investing on the full RB exhaust set up from the header to exhaust... and probably rims and yes the little quirks of the car....

hmm yeah i guess the RX7 isnt really a "smart" buy ahah but from my budget before i bought the car it would either be an MR2, 240, 300zx, or a civic (whichever). and those are really good cars but the RX7 is just too unique..haha..

 

and yes definitely considering selling this car after i've owned it for about a year.....i am definitely going for the T2 route..or something else with a turbo

RB costs more but has quality that will outlast your car and a mild tone. RB is probably the most popular brand for everything around here b/c of quality & service.

I'd take the RX-7 over an MR2 or Z any day.

You can swap in a TII engine eventually. It's supposed to be just plug and play (and hoisting it in, of course). Get one that matches your series (s4 TII if you have s4, s5 TII if you have s5), or it won't be plug and play. $1k-$1.5k, I think. If that's your plan, consider the RB turbo exhaust. I think it'lll fit on the N/A; save any pieces that won't fit for later. Only things is your 5th and 6th ports won't open if you have an s4. So if you have an s4, I'd just put on the cat back for now and keep the stock cat until you get the TII motor. That way your 5th and 6th ports will still open.

 

Anything power related is a waste of money for an NA IMO.

Since you already started on suspension with your springs and shocks, why not go deeper and get some bracing (sway bars, strut bars perhaps), tires, etc?

Nah, you can get another 30-35HP w/o too much trouble on an N/A. I'd say that's worth it. Though IMO handling upgrades are always better regardless.

 

about the A/F controllers how does that exactly help with hp gain? since i am considering the exhaust set up will that be a compliment to that?

hmmm t2 swap on an NA...yeah i've read up on it...

so basically its better to just get a T2 because of the drive train? and its expensive to swap t2 parts on an NA? is that the argument people are having?

i kinda like my FC's condition for its price...(600) i dont think i can find a very clean S5 for that much (if you see my car in person, compared to other FC's at this price it'll make you scratch your head haha.), much less a T2.....it may seem crazy? but im kinda leaning towards that na to t2 swap but i just don't know i have mixed feelings about it.

i think that's a good price...motor and everything......but ebay ehh..there is still a chance that they'll ship it to you with one little piece missing and you won't spot it until you're doing the swap but that's not a big deal to whine about...i think..

 

I'd save it for a TII swap or any future repairs.

i got my 87 with 87,000 miles and a rebuild tranny for 500$ it was a steal, the guy was gonna to buy a rx-8 and the dealership was only giving 400 for it so, he sold it to me for 500$. and if you see my 7, you would stracth your head also lol. the only problem i have is my paint is wearing down

what im about going to do is rebuild my motor agian and do a Large Streetport,port intake, port exhaust, and 5 lug converison, and get it painted dark sliver and also buy a GTU rear end i should be done by next summer,

 

I'd take the $1500 and bank it for the day (inevitable) that your daily driver needs something unexpected.
All the shiny new parts won't look so appealing when you're on the side of the road and need a new battery or something and have no cash to buy it.
Save the $1500 for emergencies and then start saving for the goodies.

 

after looking over your mods you can see there isn't much to upgrade. you can buy new bushings and mounts.

you could take a gamble and buy a jspec. the hardest parts of the swap are finding a good engine and getting a complete differential.

then you can sell what's under your hood to finance the rest of the project.

thanks for the replies everyone those are really helpful. taking into consideration, what everyone has said. i've decided to just go with the exhaust set up and save the rest of the cash for emergency i think that's cutting it right down the middle. RB set up would cost me about 1100 i would still have about 400-500 left for whatever...ill just keep it at that...and save up some more for some rims....just gonna go all out with the header to exhaust set up. thanks!! :]

 

those are Enkei but forgot the model code, anyway, those are good wheels and they are light weight, but in your case shogunxp, i said get some suspension and your ride will look much sexier.

 

i would say the the racing beat headers and exhaust that will give you some power and as for rims 16's would look good as well but do some research and look into the headers and exhaust we sell them at mazdatrix as well

yeah some people say 16's are enough but some show 17's are also good i think it more or less depends on the style of the rim and the offset? im doing a little more research between the difference in looks of 16's vs the 17's.....for sure the 16 would look good the 17's however is a risky route but if you get luck it will look good just like Natey's example. and the full exhaust is already in the bag...i'm planning to buy it from racing beat next week.

is there anything i would need or any tips on installing this full exhaust set up? (header-presilencer-ypipe-exhausts)

Im with you, but my choices where either an fc, a 240 (the new civic of our times) or a mkiii supra. I need a new starter because the solenoid keeps freezing up and thats the only problem ive had so far...I love my fc!

The RX-7 runs super rich for knock protection. So rich that knocking seems almost non-existant on an N/A. You can lean it out with an A/F controller to improve both horsepower and gas mileage. Your exhaust will also lean it out a little. IMO, I'd rather have the super protection. It only takes 1 strong knock to blow your engine. But if you want to give up some of that protection for a good chunk of power and mpg, that's what the A/F controller is for.

 

A haltech setup for this guy would cost a substantial amout over 1500 . I wouldnt do something to this extreme unless your set on getting lots of power in the near future.


Either way. I think the exhaust your purchasing is a good upgrade for your money. Thats personally what I would have went with. If you have a good running NA dont spoil it with trying to do the TII swap and running into all the problems youll come across with that. Because regardless of what people might say, you will run into problems with the swap, especially since your new to the Rx-7s. Stick with the exhaust, get you some nice 17s, and keep it at that.
