$$ how much is a convertible $$
I think I am gonna be in the market for a 2nd gen convert soon. What price range can I expect for a "decent" (doesnt need to be perfect) shape one with say 80k-100k?
My understanding is that the 2nd gens are alot more reliable than the 3rd gens. Thus a car with this many miles will be somewhat reliable.
Someone educate me on this model rx-7...any advice appreciated.

I see that the 89+ have more hp but also more weight..is there a difference in performance between 88 and 89-91? I used to have an 88 GTU. The perfomance is similar i am sure. To be honest i am not really concerned about performance...thats what my FD is for. I am looking for something thats reliable. Plus i always wanted the vert. Its a great looking car for the cash! Are the 89-91 more reliable? Cosmetically they look nicer...they dont have that black rubber dent gaurd like the 88s, right? What other enhancements or differences are there between the 88 and 89-91?
Thanks for replies.

Yeah FDxc got it right.
~$6000 emaculent, low miles (under 100K), top's in excellent condition.
Add $500 if the snap on boot & hardtop bag come with it.
I paid $3200 for mine with a good motor and good top, but the trans needed a minor rebuild. It also had a slight sidescrape on one side (hard to notice). Found the snap on boot from one of the mazda part sites for ~$300.
Take $1000 off it's the 88 (older series IV engine - less HP).
Expect the typical stuff - wiper switch needs a "do it yourself" repair, possible 3800rpm hesitation (unlikely though), etc..
Subtract as needed for wear, paint, etc..
Makes a great daily with more HP and room than the miatas. Love the excellent ride, 8000 readline, better low end torque, BEST CONVERTIBLE TOP & WINDBLOCKER EVER MADE, headrest speakers with spacious effect (doesn't blare in your ears), etc..

Well you can have mine for 6500.
1991 Convertible. New motor in 2000 with less than 30,000 miles on it. Bonez cold air intake, Bonez Race Pipe, Racing Beat Exhaust. In good shape, top does not leak, but does need small repairs. Car in excellent shape. Cross drilled front rotors. Racing pads all around. Headrest speakers work. CD player is busted. Interior is in excellent shape too. Really needs very little work, and what it does need is only cosmetic.

damn this part of the forum is active...firtst time in fc forum.
I think i will be willing to spend up to $3500. This car will be a winter car too...does the heat work...cause in my FD and many other FD's i have been in it doesnt. This is crazy...looking for a convert as a winter car/daliy driver.

no heating/cooling problems here
Yeah we try to mix it up pretty good here. The 2nd gens owners typically are the "do it yourself type", so lots of post on what everyone's doing.
Lots of stuff available for the 2nd gens (bodykits, performance upgrade, lots of accessories, etc..) so lots to talk about.
I'm trying to fill in the cracks a bit with info on "what's out there to mod my car with" and background/history stuff.

I should also mention the FCs are capable of high/extreme HP & performance without sacrificing too much engine life. Add that with the FCs excellent performance stats, mazda's continued support with parts, and an internation following from tuners, manufacturers, and rotary fans - oh yeah lots of fun
