Why are rotaries so addictive?

As the title states, why are rotaries addictive?
I mean, I'm currently working two jobs to fund my rebuild/restoration of a vehicle I love/hate. Named after an ex that ruined my life for a good two years....

Really, I make maybe 25k a year... and everything that doesn't go towards bills.. My rx7 eats up....
Oh, and I'm bored at work... lets see your thoughts on the matter...

I think it's like any other car. You get bored and you wanna tinker on something and make it your own. But also I think the reason why rotaries are so addicting is cause there different.

For me, the reason they're so addicting is because of their rich heratige in racing. The fact that they are so lightweight, easy revving, and smooth operating engines make it all just one big plus. I love the rotary, and it's going to be hard for me to go to any other car...

RX-7's are so addictive because once you fully understand it... Everything just makes sense. The day I bought an FC3S, my life was complete.

they are addictive in so many ways , i think a portion of why i love rotary is just that it is so different and unique and in a way i sometimes like when you can be talking to people and they dont know what rotary is ,and you get to explain to them (though sometimes they dont seem to care/or understand).

i think i like that its not completely known makes rotary owners a unique kind of group

+1

No matter whom you talk to that has whatever cool car, none can share in the distinctive conversation that only a rotor head can have. That is why it bugs so much when someone LS1's their RX7.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

The wankel to me is a symbol of thinking differently. That is why they are special. People are so stuck on 4-stroke piston ICE engines that they do not support or care about anything else. The electric car is slowly trying to break this trend... However, new crossovers that get worse fuel milage than their late 80's or early 90's gas only counterparts isn't helping (crx/crz).

I'm currently building a V8 FC, BUT that's because the setup will get what I need done in the most effective manner.

I thoroughly plan on getting an S4 base hardtop and making it a daily soon. I love the rotary. It's what I grew up on. I joined this website the day I got my first FC. That day, I fell in love haha.

Most people have different reasons for loving them. But mostly... BECAUSE RACECAR!

Its the smell. No other car has such a robust cockpit smell, one that lingers with favorite coats years after youve sold the ol girl off, sparking the fire for a need to own another money pit.

I <3 this thread.

There are so many reasons, but one is to me the car just doesn't age. Like high school girls. The things I'd do to that car if it had a flesh hole....

+1 Side note: I always laugh at people buying Priii when they could've bought a '94 Sentra and had the whole car gone through for vastly less money.. For nearly the same economy, without batteries or collision insurance..

I love almost everything about my FC.. I love the shape, the style, the sound [full RB B)], I love that the power never peaks before I've wound it out [ever wound up an MX-6 4cyl? UGH!], the smell, the lack of a valve train, the orange gauges, the need to rev it up [as a little kid I always wanted to rev up the old Audi 4000], the easy of working on it [manual rack+no AC, and easy of rebuilding], the [S5] tail lights, popup headlights, FTP lenses [even though no one uses em XD], I love being able to drive it at its limit and have perfect control [RB springs+Blues], I love that it has R32 wheels, I love the ugly 2-pt S4 steering wheel [it's as ugly as it is good to drive with XD]

I guess the only thing I don't love about it is its age [mostly for the electronics]... If Mazda pulled a Nissan and "factory refurbished" a small group, I'd call up a dealer as soon as I found out XD

The community.... I organized my first meet a few years ago. Not that many showed up, but it was like hanging out with a bunch of old friends. And I had never met any of them. I set up local meets all the time now. There isnt as much trash talk, if any with rotary owners compared to other crowds of enthusiasts. Us N/A guys, we know we are slow... Well most of us, and it is an outpouring of utter respect when someone with a bad *** car shows up.

We help one another, free of charge. Case in point, I was waiting until spring to organize the next OH-R meet. Everyone wanted to hang out so bad, they took it upon themselves to set up a meet at QSL in DECEMBER! A bunch of people show up, and after the meet one person has car trouble, EVERY single person stayed and helped in any way they could to get that one persons car running right so he could drive home. In the end, someone used their own roadside assistance and had it towed home.

The sound, it is unique. To most, they sound like crap. To a rotary owner they are an aural orchestra, without equal. They are raw, just beautiful sounding engines.

Being unique, and not in a gay ricer wing excuse way. You can get more unique than NOT HAVING PISTONS! And the pride you get from keeping it running as long as possible.

I love my rotaries, I have owned quite a few, and I currently have two. I occasionally buy other makes and models of cars. But I always come back eventually. Ive just given up, for better or for worse.... Im a rotor head...

Its a form of stockholm syndrome. These cars demand everything we have, take all our money and leave us with no sanity left. With no sanity to oppose, we just like RX-7's more and more, because we have lost the sense to know otherwise.

I fell for mine as it was my first project car and everytime something breaks or goes wrong I get excited to fix it. Anyone could ask my friends and they would tell you I'm crazy and that I say I think I'm lucky. The smooth power band and people always ask about the rotary or talk **** about them blowing up then I tell em yea they do blow up... on people who never pop their own hood. I've impressed muscle car guys just by spinning my 18s with a 1.3liter, people can't beilive I'm not getting 30+ mpgs, people watch and listen when it idles waiting for it to die(lumpy idle issue).

Rotary addiction is because of others doubt and your ability to prove them wrong... and lets face it they are fun for a poorman Porsche/gtr/whatever you wannaa call it.

They are just like drugs!
Buy an RX7 and that way if you get an urge to smoke Crack, just stand behind the car for 5 minutes!
PS: the money factor is about the same...nah,just kidding,,you spend more on an Rx7,but at least you have something to show for it!

I almost forgot another reason... Popup headlights and hatchbacks rule! But that's more 7 specific features rather than rotaries in general.

Im addicted because of the sound, the smell, the unique motor, and espically the look. Seems like every generation of rx7 stands out if Im driving and see one. I guess its kinda like a woman in a way you love to hate but you hate to love. Id much rather spend money on my 7 than my girl(she knws that btw) but there just somthing worth getting addictied to.

I know why...

Because driving a rotary gives you a glimpse on what life should be like...

Simple, full of energy and with a steady course instead of ups and downs

My car has been like therapy after 2 break-ups

I love all of these reasons (no homo).
In fact they just make me want to go and work on the fc even more.... :'(

I think they are so addictive for all the above reasons.
They are different, unique, rewarding, challenging, love/hate..
It is really like having a second(only) true love that makes you want to cry, but also makes you feel like you just snorted a line of coke.
