My dad one day was at a garage sale and saw this guy placed a for sale sign on a very clean S5 Vert. Called me on my cell right away and told me to take a look at it. Didnt believe him at first but decided to take a look anyway... i was in desperate need of a car... fell in love with it at first sight! super clean with only 79k original miles and midly modified... 1 1/2 years later and still lovin it with no regrets.

Back last summer or something, my cousin's love of imports and racing and drifting kinda wore off on me, an ever since then, I was looking to buy a car for my own, so I can fix, mod and eventually drift with it (as a hobby only!) He owned a 240sx (YUCK!!), and prompted me to buy one as well, but I wanted something much more original so I kept looking around.
Eventually I discovered the Mazda RX-7, and it was love at first sight! But which gen to buy...? The FB was too old, and the FDs never really caught my attention. But the FC... I liked the shape of it, and the sound, just about everything about it. From then on, I said that I wanted an FC, and I devoted myself to them and cars. I joined the site to learn about them and hopefully find one for sale, and talk to others who shared my admiration for them.
I asked my dad about buying me one, but he said, "These cars are too old? Don't you want something more up-to-date?" I said, "No, I really want this car. I can do fix it on my own and take care of it myself, and mod it and everything." But he told me, "If it's YOUR money, you can buy WHATEVER car you want, but I'm not gonna help buy such an old car!"
So now I'm saving up for my own now, and I'm gonna buy an FC all on my own. I have one on reserve and everything! I'm gonna prove my dad wrong and drive an FC!... It's the only car I can picture myself driving, now!
....Just thought I'd share! Thanks for reading (if you got this far LOL)!!

In 1980 when I was 11, my dad was in the market for a new commuter car. He wanted something cheap, and I think Consumer Reports recommended the Mazda GLC. We saw them at an auto show and later at the Mazda dealership where he bought a gold wagon. The whole time I was fascinated by the RX-7s because they looked so cool and unlike the huge, ugly Camaros and Mustangs of the era were small and athletic-looking.
My first car was an '85 GLC because it was cheap. My second car was a '90 GTU which I bought in 1995 with only 8000 miles on it. I was actually looking for an SA/FB and couldn't find a nice one at the time. After owning the S5 for a while, the looks, handling, interior, and even long-distance comfort of the FC won me over so I got a second one last spring when my old one got too rusty to save.

I bought my first Rx7 because I was offered a running 88 gxl for a s13 shell I had gotten for free and $450. I was hesitant at first, but then I drove the 7 and felt the LSD.

rx7 killer
I couldnt afford an fd...lol..i had my gtu and it had 200k miles, I had put time into it and was building it up for a track car but it got towed(family issues) it was my beater and it never left me stranded, which also won me races at the time until i had the opportunity to buy another fc which led me one year ago to purchase an 88 10th ae to build as a track car in rememberance of my gtu..
also the rotary seemed to intriuge me for some time now and i always had some admiration for mazda for creativity in some form..but fc's won my heart cant go wrong with them(plus being the most reliable out of all 3 gens IMO)

Wankel? Who's That?
This is me and my story.
When I got my license I didn't even know what an rx7 was. I was super into the suzuki samurai and the honda crx. (i've owned one of each. fun things) I remember one day during the year i got my license that i noticed a cool looking gold coupe in a neighboring driveway. or at least off to the side, and not in use. I checked it out one day and thought *oh, rx7! looks fun* anyway, before i knew it, it had dissapeared.
During the following year i got into initial d, and loved the fc, but i always looked at it as a car i would never have. and the gold fc that had mysteriously reappeared in the possesion of one of the kids at my school taunted me every time i saw it drive by.
I ended up putting my fc dreams on the side, thinking i'd be happy with a 240sx. so i looked. found one for $1600, and someone snatched it before i could. so i saw another one for $400, and someone snatched that before me.
Then i took a 2 year break from the world, and served a mormon mission to spain.
i came back and started searching seriously for a car. I saw another 240sx for $2000 and almost got it, but couldn't get a loan before it got sold. the same happened for another at $1400, and a toyota supra for $500.
all gone before i could get any money.
then, lightning struck, the heavens opened and choirs of angels where singing.
I saw a black FC. 47k miles. $1500. could it be!!?? The guy was willing to except a *some now, some later* payment! I was in luck! the first $500 i made went straight to his hand. i got a loan for $2k shortly after and paid off the rest.
IT was mine!!! The impossible dream made possible!!
I never thought i'd own an FC, but it seems as fate made so many other RWD deals go through until one day, when the Gods smiled down upon me.
Now I drive happily. I still long for a turbo, but have patience that it will come.
I don't want to upset the car gods by asking for too much right now. So i sit patiently in my NA FC and save for that one day hoped Turbo.
The End

short but simple:
a friend/co-worker of mine purchased a 86 gxl with a possible rebuild. the thing was in horrible condition, but he slowly nursed it back into health. i never got the chance to work on the car with him. the reason being, a little after a month of owning the car on his way home from work an old lady blew a stop sign and t-boned him going 55. he was alright but the car was nearly torn in half.
ever since then, ive wanted a rx7... and now i do

One of my best friends (best man @ wedding) has an 88 vert 127k that I talked into buying new in 88 wanted to sell it instead of giving it to his grandson which is years away from driving thank god. Always liked the vert and after the 07 speed3 thought it would make a great car for the wife to drive to work rather then a gas hog truck

i learned a lot about cars while growing up. my older bro and all his friends all had Hondas, Acuras, and a few had
Imprezas. i thought they looked cool but i wasn't really into cars yet. i actually discovered RX-7s while playing
Gran Turismo 2. the FD made some big power for weighing so little so i was intrigued. like some of you, i figured it'd be
a car that would be just a dream.
i eventually got into initial d from my brother, once again. watched the first 3 seasons and was really interested
in Takahashi Ryosuke (as a hero thing). admired his car and his intellect. i eventually looked up FCs to
have for my own. found a local '88 Turbo II on eBay. EBAY! of all places. my mom and brother helped me pay for it
and now it's mine. wanted a white one like Ryosuke's, but i fell in love with the arctic silver.

Smells like 2 stroke.
Hmmm... Why did I buy my '88 GXL... Well it was back in around August of '06... I had just turned 16 and wanted my own car. I found a old Buick up the street for $700, and wanted to buy it immediately. I test drove it and looked it over really close, and decided it needed way too much work. A little while later, my uncle told me that his girlfriend's ex husband was selling his "RX-7" for $350. I immediately thought "what's wrong with it? what year is it?". I figured it had to be an old, rusted out FB. All my uncle told me was that it was "that one year that looked like a porsche" (I'd never seen a 924 before, so I had no idea what he ment by this) and that "It needs a clutch master and slave cylinder." So a little while later, we went to look at it. The first thing I saw when we rolled up was the rear end and I said to my dad "Holy crap, thats an FC!" I fell in love with it the second I started the engine. Once my parents gave me the okay, we went back a few days later and baught it from him at the insane price of $350. Ever since then, I've put almost every penny that I can get (as a highschool student) into this car. I love my FC!

Was initially looking for a 240, then along came my FC with 73k on the odometer, single owner and clean inside and out. I figured $3250 for a clean *** car with no issues was worth it.
86k on the odo and almost three years later, and no problems whatsoever. Except my low 20mpg -.-

got my 88 gxl cuz it was the only one in town. i was looking at 240's and eclipse gsx's, and mustangs. but then i found the 3rd gen rx7 and loved it but there was no way i could afford one when i was making $13/hr at the time. so i comprimised and got an fc. paid 3k for it. ran great, (still does, with 90psi in both rotors) sounded deadly with the magnaflow mufflers, looked amazing even though it had s**t paint. brought it home, deleted the cat and converted to single exhaust and spraybombed it semi flat black. odly enough it look great. even with the spraybomb

I've always loved fc's since gran turismo 2. Mostly because they looked sort of similar to 944's and my older brother owned one. He always made fun of rx7s and rotary engines. Then he bought one after he totaled his 944. It blew up and he was selling it so I bought it.
I got away from rx7s after about 4 years but had got a friend of mine in to them.
He passed away in his built turbo'd s4 and now I'm building another FC in memory of him.
