why do some people not drive there FCs during the winter?

this has been bugging the hell out of me-.-

 

Well for some it is still a sports car...I dont drive mine during thw winter to keep it from dusting.... its just like any other car you really enjoy youd rather keep it nice and clean then have to cut out and redolent rest year after year. And for those of us who have second cars y put he fc threw winter if it dont have to. I guess its the same reason why some Ppl decide to park vets and and other cars its there pride and joy (also note the fact that they might not handle in the winter to well)

 

Because they do not understand how well they handle in the snow. Oh I did in college when I was at school in Minnesota

Did it long time ago, but now it's 2nd car, and I don't even need my 1st car because my commute is a short walk to the train station!

 

SALT! Ive got a 50 year old car and Ive got an 80 year old car. Someday, I hope my 7 is an 80 year old car. But, after even 1 mn winter my mint 20 year old car would be an effin rustpit.

Driving a 7 in the salt is accepting that it will end up in a junkyard within a few years.

But It would be fun, RW Drive with a good diff is damm fun.

 

They handle beautifully for a RWD car, but it's mostly about keeping it nice[safe] from a number of things: salt [none here, thank goodness], lack of skill [I've driven it in every snowfall since I got it without incident], or other's lack of skill [I watched a Frontier try to take a corner too fast and blow out the tire against the curb during a snow storm..]

I'll be driving my S4 DD all winter, but my S5 with fresh paint will probably only go out on the weekends, or whenever it's nice out..

Lol, here in NJ we get actually get something called "snow". i don't care how good of a driver you think you are but sometimes you can not physically get the car to move forward. Even if you can get to plowed roads they often have almost 6 inches of ice, salt, gravel etc....not exactly cruising weather. I drive a 2002 Volvo S60 with 300AWHP and Dunlop WinterSports 3D dedicated snow tire for the winter.

 

****!!! i drive mine up the mountains during winter! sucks when you get stuck but hey thats what chains are for!!!! ahahha

 

Two words, Road Salt. Where I live we get alot more rain than snow in the winter but it gets cold at night so they drop liquid salt crap all over the roads to prevent ice. I can't bring myself to put my 7 through that. It bad enough that I have to worry about my Cherokee rusting out, without having to worry about the 7.

 

My 7 won't move for **** in the snow.

 

I drove all my 7's in the snow I only got stuck once in a driveway when it was raining ice and the driveway had a slope. Donuts and snow drifts are sure fun though.

 

The rust bug comes out in the winter

 

All season tires? Is the snow deep enough to scrape the underside of the car? Yes and no = Shouldn't have any problems...

 

^^ that is the issue I had, My car had shorter then stock tires on it. Car was fun and easy to control. I could get the rear out really easy and then it almost came back on its own. Compared to my mustang that would not slide easy and once it did go out it was hard to get it back in.

 

because you car will rot away and be ****, no matter how much you think you can clean it the car is ruined

you cant clean **** like this from every nook and cranny

never mind if you have summer tires

 

^ Ouch. I like the east coast but thats probably the main reason I don't live there. Especially because I'm an auto technician and I don't like ******* with rust all day.
I wouldn't mind driving mine in the snow because we don't have a salt problem in NM, but for some reason whenever it snows or rains here, everyone on the road immediately sucks at driving and starts wrecking into each other. Definitely don't wanna chance the 7 in that ****.

 

Mine are daily driven. But that's easy for me to say in Cali.

In fairness, my S4 TurboVert was driven in testing weather conditions the year I was in Texas. Ice, Ice baby........

 

never mind all the water leaks on a vert then freezing up, I used to have ice on the INSIDE of my windshield and on the rug, lol

I drive both mines in the winter.
Love it driving through snow. I remember one time when it was snowing 4-5 inches I was driving and everything from the dual y-pipe back fell off because the snow in the middle of the road was 3 inches high and was ice solid LOL.
On my GTUs I was too lazy to change the tires and rims to fit winter time, drove to and from work in the snow on 225/17 extreme summer tires no traction at all in some cases, had to roll the car back and forth. In my GXL, it does great in the snow but the RB dual Presilencer sits only 2 inches off the ground and it scrubs off snow in the middle of the road. My GXL is por-15 all underside of it so I drive that most of the time in the winter, my GTUs isnt so I only drive it when they havent salted the road.

Road salt + moisture = rust.

 

I drove with my top down once in a middle of a snow storm and everyone looked at me crazily Haha but it was surprisingly warm with the heater on.

 

Drifting the car in the snow is a good way to get a feel of how well the car is balanced, some times I had to drift the car just to have directional control. I miss the snow, FL sucks. It will get could sometimes but no snow.

 

Rot due to salt would be a concern for me... especially since the FC is my dream car! But my FC does not run yet. For now I just sit in the drivers seat and make various rotary noises.
