ON TOPIC... out of interest... Bondo is lightweight body filler yes? made for small thin applications, but Bondo-glass ( duraglass et al.) is a heavy duty fiberglass re-enforced rust and water-proof filler... that is marketed for deeper stronger work. So if fiberglass is strong enough to make an entire bumper out of ... why, on a properly prepared surface, wouldn't it work well for filling and bonding to a 3/8" (if that) deep strip ?
THIS IS A QUESTION NOT A STATEMENT.

since you asked, and didnt try to fight it.
heres the deal, when you start to layer stuff up, then you tend to get warpage. no matter what you are working with.
metal to fiberglass is tricky, and most people have no clue how to due it properly. when you start to layer stuff up thick without having any kind of real surface to it to adhere to (ie fiberglass panels, or anything super porous) it tends to dry out, and under freezing temps, will crack. duraglass (kitty hair as its called) is for use of custom boxes and such for reinforcement when doing layering up on fleece and such.
not to be used for huge amounts and fill in HUGE gaps. its a mix, not a cureall.
and if people want to continue that fight, here:
fiberglassforums.com and look up highvoltage77. talk to him, hell tell you watsup.
peace

Filler is filler.
Experienced auto body people know that LESS is always BETTER with filler.
No, it is not really made for deep filling, even though a lot of people think so.
They figure...oh, it's tougher since there's fiberglass strands in it...but, no, it's not.
It's great a stand-alone material like making speaker enclosures, but I don't like to use it for finishing touches.
As magus2222 has already mentioned, the problem is two different types of materials...
Filler / filberglass versus metal panels...
Heat expansion and cold contraction will cause the two to separate.
Period.
Laws of physics.
Unless you're God who can bend the laws of physics, it's just not going to work.
If you live in a mild climate with very little temperature fluctuations, then it might last longer...but it's going to still crack.
Now, if moisture ever gets in between the metal and filler...kiss your work good bye.
Of course, good prep work and proper painting will produce a very good (moisture) seal, but I'm not going to assume the OP is that good.
This is the same reason why that filled "channel" is going to eventually distort and cause a warp / wave in the paint.
Give it a couple years, I bet you can eyeball where he filled using his miracle duraglas...
So what happens when the car gets tapped?
Or that errant shopping cart bangs into his precious body work?
More force...more stress...is going to lead to cracks.
Using rivets is an option, but that was never mentioned by the OP.
Rivets can cause more harm than good if you don't know what you are doing.
Leave that to the professionals...not to the OP who claims he is...

I don't care what anyone says other than the white interior this car will be very nice when done. Those rims are completely boss. And seems like they will fit the car extremely well. Can't wait to see it done. But at least your trying something different with the interior. What's the plan for the engine and tranny?

Ted, this whole cat fight is so mundane. Now you're calling out my age? So you've been doing the car scene since the 80's? That's great, but your statement only proves that age does not necessarily ferment into patience, maturity and wisdom- you're more like a cheap vodka, harsh and bitter. Seriously, why ARE you so bitter? All over this forum you are THE jerk. I'm not talking ****, just stating what Iv'e observed. I really don't get into this cat fight crap hardly ever, but for once I thought I'd say something. Stop abusing people Ted- its not cool. Yeah, Tooshort should have some thicker skin, and needs to accept that some people don't like his style, but making empirical statements, like "once the bump strips are removed the car looks like ***", well, thats not true- its just your opinion. What YOU need to accept is that every person is on a path to learning, and that YOU are not the teacher passing out the grades.
I've owned my FC for 9 years...I bought it after I graduated high school as well. So I hope that answers your question about my age.

...you need to be careful how you judge people.
I'll just leave it at that.

At youngest, you were born around 1982 and at least 26 right now.
So I was close about my comment about doing the car show thing before you were born...

Nice effort on everything and hope the project goes well. I myself don't really care what my car looks like(no a big fan of body kits) because it is an Rx7(already looks better than most 20 year old jap cars) and i want it to be fast and handle good like it was suppose to do. I think it will turn out good but you need a engine to push around the extra weight.

I don't know why people argue with ted, i don't always like evry last one of his ideas but i always take his advice, because that's all he's really doing.
He's just an *** sometimes to get his point across clearly. He knows more than most of everyone on this board. If I ever go to Hawaii I sure as hell would like to meet him.

Ya i took the reflection into consideration allready.. I added a flattening agent into my clear coat and there is no gloss on the dash.. If the white makes it hard to c wen im just cruzin around town then i got a black fc dash cover that does the trick....And yes i built this car for the show!
People on here just don't understand, if you're trying to pose an argument, or retaliate, you just look stupider when you use broken grammar, misspelled words and cheap attacks.
Seriously guy, the more posts I read of yours the less and less I think of you. Put some time and structure if not quality into your posts. The way you present yourself represents your work. It doesn't mattter if you agree with it or not, that's what it all comes down to.
I think you have a great work ethic with all the effort you put into the car, but I don't like it, and I think it will fall apart. I also definately don't see that car ever being street or track driven. It doesn't seem practical at all.
Also, you keep on mentioning a flattening agent you used for you dash clear coat. As far as I've ever known, smooth shiny surfaces reflect more........

see, what he doesnt know is, that painting a dash is a bad idea anyways. wrapping it in a fabric is the best way to go. paint fades, material wont if taken care of. aka alacantra, suede, ect ect ect.
oh, and looks 1000000x times better, because unlike the assflounder who decided that a white dash would be a good idea, fiber wrapped interior is soooo clean.
peace

Really don't know what to say, except...
...you need to be careful how you judge people.
I'll just leave it at that.
If that math isn't too rusty, you grad high school by 1999.
At youngest, you were born around 1982 and at least 26 right now.

( someone disagree with me on that please... )
I could be 26 or I could be 96... my point was, ive owned my FC for 9 years, and that I purchased after I graduated high school ( my point being that Im not a 16 year old child in high school... and that yes, I did in fact graduate high school, college and then some ) I don't care how old you believe I am, because I don't have to make proof of my age to you. Why would I when you have amply proven that age doesn't dictate class, of which you my friend, are severely deficient in.
Can we PLEASE now, let the show go on?
Tooshort... how is the paint coming?
