What to do with my roof...
Hey
Here's some photo's of the roof on my car. I'd just like to essentially insure that it is 'protected' from the elements. It seems like the just the clear coat has peeled off, but I am by no means experienced with automotive paint in any regards.
I was thinking of sanding down the roof, and painting it black at first, but i'm thinking to leave it in primer grey, my friends have been of very little help, and I've decided to ask for your opinions.
Clearly the car could do with a paint job, but I won't be in that position for a little while, and would just like to protect the car, my pride and joy.
Just wondering what you guys thought. Also, I don't know if I would paint the sunroof, or just leave it in the factory paint colour.

As it sits now, yes it should be safe from the elements. It looks like its just the clear coat and you wouldn't really have to worry unless that was the primer coming off, seeing as that is the last barrier between metal and elements. But, without seeing it first hand it's hard to tell for sure.

If it's just through the clear, let it be. If it is down to metal (hard to tell in pictures), sand it down to bare metal and primer it in a climate controlled setting. It's winter where I am. Don't primer it outside. Have it professionally painted when you can afford it. There is a big difference between automotive paint and spray paint.

I'm quite confident it is just the clear coat. I like the idea of just letting it be as well. Just whenever I wax the car, i get confused with what to do when i get to that part:s
btw, it is also winter in Canada lol

I am replacing the steel hood, which does have around the same amount of clear coat missing with an aluminum one which has it's paint in tact, minus a scratch i'm going to try to buff out. other than that, there is a 50mmx100mm area right after the hatch which isn't bad at all, and then the paint is good. (The car has been noticeably sitting outside for a long time, i'm replacing the dash due to sun fade as well.)
I understand what your saying clokker, and that's what i thought originally as well, but how much extra work would it be? is there a way i could just apply some clear or something?
If it will be fine from the elements, then I will most likely leave it due to laziness, and being 100% amateur at body work.
