Thinking of selling my N/A FC. How much is it worth?

Hey Guys,

I have been contemplating selling my 91 RX7 for some time. I enjoy the car, but I honestly do not drive it that much any more. I also have the oppurtunity to make a move on a nice FD, but in order to come up with the funds, something has to go.

So about the car. I always said to myself that this car would be hard to sell because it would take a very very specific buyer to appreciate the car for what it is.

Here is the run down:
- 1991 GXL Body
-The engine is an NA S5 13b.
- It has been rebuilt and street ported by Kahren. (Username: Kahren on here if you haven't heard of him)
- Motor has about 9k on it now.
- Haltech E6K
- Walbro 255 lp Fuel Pump
- 550cc Primary and Secondary Injectors
- Custom Intake Manifold, Header, and 3 inch exhaust from Kahren.
- The exhaust consists of 2 large resonators after the header and a Racing Beat muffler with dolphin tail tip.
- Koyo Aluminum Radiator
- ACT Heavy Duty Pressure Plate and Sprung Clutch Disk.
- Lightened flywheel (either Fidanza or ACT, I cannot remember)
- RX-7 Clutch Type LSD with upgraded 4.9 Final Drive Ratio. (Stock is 4.1)
- Koni Yellow Shocks with Racing Beat Springs
- 17x9 R, 17x8 F A-Tech Finalspeed Wheels. (Now made by MB Motoring. Can't remember offsets off hand)
- 235/40/17 R and 215/45/17 F Falken FK452 tires.
- Blox Forged Aluminum Purple Lug Nuts
- Relatively new Axxis Ultimate brake pads
- Stainless steel brake lines
- DTSS Eliminated
- Shine Auto Front Lip
- Turbo II Side Skirts
- Sparco Competition 368 Steering Wheel.
- Momo Steering Wheel Hub
- Recaro SPG on Nakajima Super Low Seat Rail
- Battery relocated to rear passenger bin
- Depowered Steering Rack
- A/C Removed
- Redline MT-90 Tranny Fluid
- Redline 75w-90 Diff Fluid
- Black Manual Seat Belts from an S4
- 10th Anniversary Black Pillar and Seat Belt Plastics

That is about all I can remember off the top of my head for mods. We haven't dyno'ed the car, but it feels like it is somewhere in the 210 whp to 230 whp range. If I still have the car next month, I was going to bring it to the dyno with another car I have that needs final numbers to see what it makes.

The car is very well sorted. I have fixed many of the PITA things that come associated with older cars. Things like:
- Steering rack boots
- Tie Rod Boots
- Drive Shaft U-Joints
- Wheel Hubs / Bearings
- Window Switches
- Heater Blower Motor
- Headlight Motors and Relays.
- There other little things here and there, but you get the just.

I have a spare Racing Beat Dual Exhaust (if you want really quiet daily exhaust) with RB Header. I keep these for emissions. I have a dual (2) welded catalytic converter that is to be used in conjunction with the full RB exhaust for emissions. The car passes CT emissions without ease with this setup.

I also have other spares for the car including a set of Turbo II Mesh wheels with Blizzak LM-22 snow tires mounted on them. Spare tinted hatch and spare transmission.

So now on to the bad. The car is no show car by any means. The interior is relatively clean for an older car, but the outside isn't anything to brag about. The car was initially white, but had a poor black paint job sprayed on it at some point. There are small dimples on the hood. The front fenders have flaking paint and are starting to rust (just the surface). The paint is flaking off on other areas of the car. Although, there are no major dings or rust on the rear quarter panels. The rails along the underside have been almost completely flattened from the car being jacked up improperly. There are some small rust spots forming in the engine bay. The blower vent is stuck on defrost. The wiper switch only has one setting that works still which is the normal constant speed. There is no radio, only speakers in the doors.

So what do you guys think this car is worth? If I can't sell it, I don't have problems keeping it. Ultimately, I would probably look for a clean shell down the road and just swap everything over. Although, the FD RX7 is that number one dream car that I have always wanted to own and the one my friend has for sale is really tempting me to make the move.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

It's very clean and tastefully modded. I'd try and be patient to get at least 6k for it. Post it for 7k and let someone drop it down from there. It just sucks cuz the bb for that car is around 2k. So it might take some time. But you'll find a purist who will take it eventually. If you tried to sell it for 4k, I bet it'd go pretty quick. Why the sell? I bet you're going to be very sad once it's gone! And I have a feeling you're going to want alot more for it, but you have to remember, awesome rare parts and all the awesome stuff you have into it, doesn't mean anything when trying to sell.

It's sad, because he is right. I wouldn't sell, cuz it looks like a very fun little car, that has so much time and effort put into it, and it'll be tough to try and make it worth it. My guess is you'll probably get offered around 4k eventually. But if I owned it, that wouldn't be worth it to me. Thats why I say around 6k, but good luck finding someone who will pay that, ya know.

I would LOVE to take that car for a drive with all those engine mods and the 4.9 rear end.

I've never seen an N/A setup like that. It's an all custom manifold?

I'd recommend posting it up for something like 5500 for a while, that's not your typical near stock n/a

Yea I hear ya. Which is exactly why I said this car is for a very specific type of enthusiast. For 4k it would not be worth selling. I was thinking in the 6-7k range would be enough to justify selling it. I understand that there is always going to be a loss when selling a car, but it would also cost much more to replicate this car. In addition, well built FC's are becoming a rarity these days. There is no dire need to sell it. The main temptation to sell is that it would give me a means to get into that FD. If I could afford to, I would love to be able to keep both.

Probably one of the best things to do to the car. The stock gearing is very long and the higher final drive really wakes the car up.

None at the moment. I have to bring my turbo Miata back to the dyno soon, so if I still have the car I will bring it also. The engine has been fully built and tuned by Kahren though. He knows rotaries in and out and exactly what they want for fuel and timing. This car is significantly faster than my stock S2000.

Yup. Kahren tried a couple different designs, but saw great gains with this design over the stock manifold.

Haha. Long story short, I ordered a filter from one of those online retailers that sell the parts much cheaper than the average price and ended up getting sent the wrong filter. It just barely fit in there. I couldn't stop laughing at it when I first put it on. I left it on mainly for the good laughs that come associated with it

That paint job is HORRIBLE man. The car is awesome though- I'd LOVE to drive it! It's gotta be a super raunchy feeling car. 210-230 N/A HP has got to be a blast!

You'll have to find someone that respects it and I'd take no less than $5000. You've got some expensive mods there, and the funny thing is it's probablya super reliable car.

I'd start at 6K. The rear end alone was probably at least $1500.

If you do sell it, it will take a while until someone who understands what it is comes with money.

People around here are super cheap and they don't realize how it hurts their cars' value.

People here are super cheap because all our cars are super cheap. Yes we are all RX7 enthusiasts and love these cars but we also need to realize NOBODY else is looking for one of these. Only we know what they are worth, and what they aren't. And deep down, we know they aren't worth much. I love this car, and I know they are near impossible to find, but I'm never going to pay "money" for one again.

I payed 4300 for my car 4 years ago. I was young and stupid. I've put at least 6000 into it and have nothing really to show for it. If I got 4000 for it, I'd be OK with it.

But... I'm not selling it
