Ten months to build, One week to write off

Last night, heading home, N driver in his Mom's Dodge ran a stop sign and hit the 7.... Just finished paint, brand new wheels/tires/coils/stereo/Taurus alt swap... I'll let the pics do the talking:

Sorry, here in BC we have a Graduated Licensing System that means you have your "L" (Learners) for a year, and your "N" (New Driver) for two years with zero drinking/one passenger restrictions, then you can take a road test and get your full license.

I seriously hope the other driver goes to jail and or you say they were high on drugs. That way they get tested and loose everything, while you also get the total amount of your car's value.

Dont get ride of the chassis just yet.. if you collect some $$.. just pull the fender out of the wheel, throw on a tail light and replace the subframe if needed.. You could still drive it like that.. get your enjoyments worth out of it at least.

Pound out as much as you can. Use a jack lift between the fender and innerwall to push it out.

@Hypertek The way insurance works up here I can't just do that. The car is in ICBC's (Insurance Corporation of BC) hands now, and until there's a settlement, I can't get it back. It could be written off and deemed non-rebuildabe, meaning it will never again see the road.

Thanks for the condolences though guys.... this really blows

What a horrible thing to happen and my greatest car related fear as I am finishing up a rebuild and repainting.

You should be able to buy the car back once all the paper work falls into place. If nothing else you can swap all the good parts from the totaled shell to a new rx7.

Trust me, you have my sympathy. I can completely relate. My first RX7 met a similar fate. It ran absolutely perfectly. At the time I wasn't experienced enough to do my own work, so it went to the best shop I"ve ever had the pleasure to pay for service. It was an import specialty shop that did all types of work, but specialized in exotics. Every time I dropped my car off there were all sorts super cars. Porsche, Ferrari, Lotus, Jags, etc. It was the type of shop where they would find other little things wrong and adjust them at no cost. I'd either get a call with them letting me know some other unrelated thing that needed tweeked and them asking permission to do it..usually at no cost. Or I'd pick up the car and the owner would say "Hey, we found this other thing it was doing, we went ahead and adjusted it for you...no cost"

My car got crushed by a woman. She apparently did not understand the simple physics of coming down a hill to a stop sign in the rain with wet leaves all over the road.

One thing to think about is this. If insurance doesn't put a totaled title on the car you can buy it back from them and follow the advice of others in the thread. Swap the subframe from a donor and do the necessary body work.

Damn man, that FC has such a nice color and it's a s4.

TBH: I'm so picky that I wouldn't even want my car back if it got wrecked like that.

Sorry for your loss.

Jesus man... I can relate as mine is still in the works of recovering from a crash. But I hope that insurance doesnt label it as totaled, I would kill someone if that happened and I just lost ALL the work I put into it.

Luckily, I'm under my families own insurance company, so they cut me A LOT of slack.

Good luck with getting it back and doing speedy repairs!

WTF! How many times are you going to have to rebuild this thing?! And you just got it back on the road too. Sorry to see that and good luck with ICBC.... I know how much of a PITA they can be.

In BC he'd only go to jail if he got out and stabbed 10 people then in court told the judge he wasn't sorry and that he'd do it again. Then he MIGHT get jail time.
