Stupid question about legroom between OEM steering wheel and seat
Stupid question about legroom between OEM steering wheel and seat
Work on the inside of my 88 RX7 converitble continues...
I have finally put my interior back together. I patched the rusty floor, got new carpets. Replaced the velour door panels with leather ones. I sold the momo steering wheel and threw away the torn seats. I put in a stock steering wheel and seats out of a S5 TII...
So I finally get to sitting in the drivers seat (for the first time), and DAMN its tight! So my question is, did I not mount the seats right or is there really that little room between the steering wheel and the seat?!
kinda wish I never sold that Momo wheel now...

Are you talking about the distance from the bottom of the wheel to the tops of your legs, or how close you have to sit to the wheel in order to reach the pedals properly?
I'm 5'9" but I have relatively short legs. I always feel like I have to be just about 1/2" closer to the wheel than I want to be in order to comfortably depress the clutch. I sometimes wish either the clutch pedal was about 1/2" closer or that I could split the difference between two of the seat adjustment detents. In other words, the close one seems a little too close and the farther back one is too far.
However, the issue with me is that the gas and brake seem too close for my right leg when the seat is adjusted best for my left leg. I never have any issues with where the steering wheel is positioned.

I had a 320mm Momo on there before...the stock one is alot bigger. I might be in the market for another 320mm wheel if I don't get used to the stock wheel and leg room.
I've been driving an SUV more lately...I just need to get used to being in a tight car again.
Thanks for all the responses

I just started a post on this. I am 5'10" and I normally drive big American cars. I have never owned anything smaller than a mid size sedan before this RX7 (and I mean, American mid size which is more like a full size). I find the distance between the wheel and the seat on the rx7 cramped but everyone that drives rx7s had no idea what I was talking about. It's all dependent on what you are used to. I feel like a sardine in a can in this car but that's because my normal sunny day sports car is a 4200 lb, 300 horsepower, 18 foot long 4 door tank.
5'8" 210lbs stock seat and wheel
leg room was tight, getting a 320mm steering wheel helped, but i still use my knees on the door/center console under high G's. with a helmet on i need to have the sunroof popped up to clear it comfortably.. lol
