S5 Bumper with 626 lip!
S5 Bumper with 626 lip!
Seen the s4 bumper with it so i figured i would make one for the s5 and see how its going to look. the lip is going to get finished. ends extended and a few other things heres the mock-up.

I know the pics are HUGE! i didnt know they were going to be that big i thought they were all going to be like the last pic. There is quite a bit involved in make this lip. I am in the garage right now with the laptop with me making this lip and talking on the comp
. The first thing i did was line up the curve in the lip to the fog light hole Closest edge to the center of the bumper. I am lineing up the face of the bumber first, try to get everything as close as i can before i do the curve and line up the side. the reason for this is if you look at the pictures you can see there are fenders attached to the bumper. When i set the bumper on the ground the sides bow out. After i get the face pretty close i will put the bumper on my car and do the sides that way everything is lined up on the sides correctly. I thought i was going to fiberclass the ends but my father came over and told me im not doing that. (hes been a body man/builds hot rods since he was 14now hes 43 does it for a living) He told me to go back to the junk yard and cut the sides off another one and we will splice in a piece on the lip. He has a plastic welder so it shouldnt be to bad. Now for the center...Its getting a piece of plastic welded on to it. In the picture all that is is cardboard spray painted black just to get the idea. For me school starts tomarrow so idk how much free time im going to have. well im getting back to work.... ill keep posted

The tape is just holding the piece of cardboard on. In the picture the lip is just clamped to the bumper from the backside. If you look at picture 3 you can see the clamp. last night i go the pass. half of the lip almost fitted completely. i took pics and will post them up when i get a chance. There is going to be some fiberglass work to the backside of the lip for structure and stability reasons. From the looks of things and the way everythign is going this lip should turn out and look pretty good.
looking at the last photo, which is looking down on the bumper/lip- the line of the lip does not look straight, it seems the drivers side sticks out further then the passenger, not just where it meets the bumper but in the span as well. The line in the span is not true

That is 100% correct because all i did was walk into the garage hold the lip up to the bumper one handed and clamp the back side with the other hand. If you look even more you will see that its not really lined up at all, just take a look at the center of it looking from the top. the next pictures i post you will see measurments and such. That was just a mock-up to see if it would even be worth my time attempting, thiking, taking into consideration making it fit. I also held this up to laser front bumper its DAMN close on that as well. so i wonder what lips are out there for lasers.
the lip is plastc. Thats why most of it will be plastic welded. I havent even begun to apply any product. The lip is still getting chopped and fitted. I still have to go back to the junk yard and get another lip so i can splice the sides in.
There is still alot to be done. There is no clue or adhesive apllied to this lip. It is all welded together with a plastic welder. The lip still has a long way to go this is just the beggining and basic fitment. I still have not been able to make it to the junkyard to get another lip.
So far:
Lip- $11
Time- 5hoursish
TO Come:
$50 worth of material to finish it.
When im done i should not have over $70 bucks into it and a maximum of 15 hours total.

. Good progress though, I wasn't aware of plastic welding until a few months ago, pretty neat-o stuff.

Very interesting. I picked up a 626 lip a couple of weeks ago at Pull-A-Part and was a little stuck on how to resolve the issue of both sides being too short for the 7. I'll head back over and pick up another lip and mold it into mine the same way you are approaching it. Thanks for the pics and the idea. With a little crafting time, this should work.
I know he did all himself and has that satisfaction, im just saying that for the amount of time into it he puts himself into the position that his time was worth more then what lips are selling for.
So are you going to smooth that one out and paint it a gloss or leave it a flat spray paint finish?
