Seems like something that people would vote yes on because it is a cool idea, then it would fade away slowly.

I think its a great idea. mazdas247 has it and i have gotten tired of seeing the cars on the page and i like looking at the cars that compete for the car of the month. they have nice pictures and info about the rides.

ride of the month FTW

Wasn't there something along these lines a few years ago? It was like featured in the banner or something, new pic every month, but it lasted like 2 months and we're stuck with the current banner? Was this a reality or am I making this all up?

well i think its a good idea.. but question is.. how to pick the cars that will be put up for ride of the month? looking for just exterior, mbbe interior? or both? to have like 5 or 10 to vote on a month would be cool. have a deadline for it of course.

and youll have to keep ppl from posting pics of their car when ppl are voting just because they think theirs should be up for rotm.

but good idea. at the end of the year, someone can put together a calender with every months car. like an rx7club calender or something. sell it for like 10 bucks or somethin..

just tossin out some ideas. and whatnot. but I say do it. i would like a fc calender.

Set up categories each month, anyone interested in entering that fits the category can qualify then it's up to the other memebers to decide the winner. I listed a few ideas above & mentioned the deadline aspect. This could be real simple, if done lets not make things difficult.

+1 for the original idea, +1 for ROTM for each generation, but not one exclusive for the wide body only section...

I dont know who really cares about it, how would it get chosen, who would have final say, probably be like local car shows where it becomes a popularity contest or who brings the most people to the show with them casting their votes.
Might just resort to some people having their friends sign up to vote for car of the month, and in the end who cares its not like you win something

Build your car because you like it, who cares what other people think, check out the "post a pic of your ride" section for each generation of car and pick your own favorite.

How about an Rx7club member mom of the month? Everyone posts pics of their moms and we vote!

iv seen lots of car forums do it the COTM thing.

They would have a single thread for nominations, then a vote thread at the end of the month. And its possible to have the same car voted in for consecutive months. With a maximum of 3 consecutive wins.

Then the Car of the Month winner will get like a forum sticker or lanyard, and a feature at the top of the page, a thread, or the front of the website if it has one.

you are implying that IB will cough up the loot for these goodies, in true fashion to enter for COTM you would probably have to pay $5, lol

I am not implying anything from that post, I'm just stating what i have observed from other forums that have done the COTM thing.

and if RX7club were to do something similar and with COTM prizes like a small sticker.....how much do you think 12 small stickers would cost? I am thinking very small, so an entry cost would be ridiculous to ask to the community.

If it were me running this joint (not that i want to), i wouldn't mind shelling out a few bucks per year to some cool forum members with cool rides. Id be good promotion. and give a little incentive to some members to keep their cars clean and get their cars on the road faster. Maybe even give a little bit of forum competitiveness?

when it was owned by one person it might have been different, now I think a vendor would have to step up, be something like "car of the month sponsored by xxxxx"

In the past I have entered & won COTM & COTY, like Wings said a forum sticker, some car care stuff & a feature post on the forum. For COTY I recieved a plaque & some other goodies. At the end of the day not alot was spent, but the fact is that some forums have a COTM & this one does not.

cotm in december would be unfair to canadians, we could just take pics of our car cover and you'd never know what's underneath lol.

In all seriousness, I believe it's a great idea for a couple reasons:

1. Help promote interactions between members.
2. Creates a bit of competitiveness between members. i.e. someone may want to out do rotordad's widebody if his car is featured (sorry rotor dad, just using you as an example, as I really like the widebody )
3. For all the time and dedication we spend on our cars, it would always be nice to have that extra appreciation from people that you know spend that time and dedication as well.

I do see people's points though to having that popularity contest though, and I'd hope that we can all respect each other. I'm for it.

Justin

car of the month can be easier on the moderators if they set up text accounts like text this # to vote for this person or this number for this person and at the end of the month the car is displayed on the home page. we don't have to make it complicated by adding new sections and vote sections i work with html and i know its a bitch
