Exclamation Project #29 10th AE

Yes this is my 29th Rx7. I turned 29 this year, I will be having my 10th wedding anniversary and believe it or not this summers project will be a 10th AE. I am still on the fence as to the fate of the car.. I need to decide if this will be a restore, or resto-mod.... Initial instinct was to straight up restore the car due to the fact that it is pretty clean. BUT the car has 152,000 miles so the draw as a collector car is pretty low.. I will probably lean resto-mod.

As for the car it is in pretty nice shape overall, the interior is nearly mint other then the 10thae floormats which may not be salvageable..

There is some paintwork needed on the front bumper as it has some flaws, and there is some purple tint buggering up the windows.

The last time the car was registered was 2002, and it has bad coolant seals. It came with a few goodies- most noteable being Racing Beat downpipe and midpipe...

I am getting ready to pull the engine for rebuild, and total scrubdown of the underbelly.. I will update the thread as I make progress. I started to work on the paint today (sanding the front bumper, and polishing/waxing the rest.)

I'd say resto-mod for sure. The way I see it with 10AEs, under the hood it's no different than any other TII, so go as wild (or mild) as you want. I wouldn't mess with the exterior much though. lower/lip/wheels is as far as I would go exterior-wise.

I've always had a 'fantasy project' involving a 10AE; restore the exterior and interior to pristine factory spec, have the factory wheels widened so they fill out the wheel wells better (and put more rubber to the ground), and drop a n/a 20B in it .

Nice. Your seats even look good I'm restoring my 10th AE too. I picked it up just over a month ago. Needed a turbo and paint. Everything else was all there, even the stock equalizer. My plan is to keep the body OEM with vert wheels and a BNR stage 2.

Nice find. 29 RX7's wow! You should call guinness world records and see if you could get the record for most RX7's owned.

I did buy it off craigslist but I am not sure if it is the same one you saw.

As nifty as it is to have 1 of 1500, I was a little shell shocked that there really isnt much "special" about it other then trim..lol.. It is odd how cool owning a "rare" one is though.. all my other cars were very normal until I touched them.. This one will just be a little different.

there was one for sale in knoxville for $1000 which included downpipe and midpipe that's why it caught my eye but good buy if thats the one you got looks like it was def worth it!

Dude wheres the rest of your GTU squared project? I wanted to see it lol.
EDIT - I fail so hard, gonna go read it now.

Nice 10th AE, I would lean to restomod..nice exhaust, cone filter maybe cold air box etc.

There is a big difference between a Mazda tech, and a Rotary Tech... In my experience I could care less about who you work for, but the quality of your work speaks for itself...

For example: I have no idea where my urologist went to school, he never told me.. But I know he does a good job...

I think people that constantly tell you how awesome they are, probably do so to convince themselves....

Thanks! My relationship (with Rx's and my wife) has been rocky at times, but it always seems to payoff in the end.

if it were my car i would keep everything a factory as possible, then just do a motor and tranny build, maybe a 20b if your feeling spontanious.

beautiful 10AE!!! i would lean towards a restoration. 1 of 1500 is collector car status. my 10AE is all stock and people love the car everywhere i take it. minor mods like a RB exhaust and a fuel pump to support the exhaust and fcd would be outstanding upgrades if you are planning on doing any. i'm an avid RX-7 restoration guy and i look forward to your progress and i'll be following this thread!

Wow, congrats on your long road of marrge and Rx-7's!

I too recently pickd up a 10AE last november off of the original owner with 160,000 kms, all documented and even the original bill of sale!

I was also orginally planning on just restoring it completely stock, but ended up getting the motor rebuilt, which lead to street porting, fd rotors 2pc apex seals, hybrid turbo, RB turbo back, microtech.. well you get the idea.

However the outside of the car appears 100% stock, and I plan on keeping the car looking like a 10AE.

Goodluck with the build I will be most definately keeping an eye on this!
