Damn. I forgot all about this thread after i had to have my parts car crushed.

I didn't have a spare hatch anymore to bang the glass out off. I still want to do this:

Making the "trunk section" of the hatch is the easy part. Mock with cardboard, cut metal in shape of cardboard (could even be a flat hood from a junkyard car cut up....nice solid skeleton too!), weld in, grind welds, glass/bondo, done.

Finding someone to make a custom lexan window that will bubble out like that is a different story. Raceglass maybe?

I'll try something this winter if i find a hatch at the junkyard or something cheap.

How it went from coupe to wagon in less than half a page, i dont know.

That's rx7club for you. Alot of creative outside-the-box thinkers.

Wow, the wagon's cool..and you could easily make that just apart of the hatch and not have to modify the shell..

Someone get on that ****.

somebody do it!

would probably need some sort of trunk though

Start with a vert, swap the doors, weld the roof on. Probably best way to do this.

^ I think the rear of it is too square... maybe bubble it out more or extend the class a little bit so it doesn't look so flat.

I think I would take the hatch frame and totally modify it..put like s13 rear window and then sheet metal for the "trunk"

its possible, remember that burgundy drift fc with the fiberglass hatch trunk with no rear glass? I kind of like the truck conversion myself.

Quoting pics 2 posts after is usually frowned upon but great chop.

That is ******* A+

Do want. Will work on. It wont look JUST like that but it gives me an idea. If i dont like it, i'll just put my stock hatch back on.

GRRRR. I need to hurry up and finish what i've got to with my fc first so i can start!

And hypertek, that car is actually "red sparkle vinyl" and belongs to "angry earl". Well, i think he sold it so idk.

The hardest way to do it would to be to start with a vert. it's far easier to fab a trunk than a roof. If you can weld and use a bandsaw/chop saw/sheet metal break then there is no reason you can't do this. Perfect excuse to buy some argon for my mig welder in a few months!!!!!

If you took your car to a shop and handed them this picture and got that **** done, i would never harmless smart-crack about your car again. I doubt anyone would. That looks ******* SICK.

I thought of a way to graft an oem window in. You'd have to sawzall the entire frame section out of your window donor car and trim it as necessary to fit the fc. The hatch itself doesn't bear any load. it's the b pillars. If you dont mess with them (other than welding in sheet metal if you're not going to mod the hatch itself) there isn't a worry about loss of strength.

There are so few verts out there anyway. I coudn't bear the sight of seeing one hacked up.

Yep. It would work well. Someone says "nice onevia" and you can throatstab them with an apex seal.

Is the third pic the same as the first 2 pics? Cuz it looks pretty nice. Maybe the angle change made it look better?

thank you so much hypertec...it looks like a vision come true,...just like i imagined.

when i think about this, doing it i mean, i do think of the z06..and for good reason. notice how a z06's trunk opens. its nearly flat, and it doesn't dip over into the back of the car. the rear of the z06 is designed just like the fc hatch and tail light area. i like the s13 rear window idea. the glass in cars is tempered, so to use and existing part it would have to fit well--no cutting--i actually overlooked the s13 accidentally and have been looking at early saturn SL2's. the glass is short and curved though i havent been able to measure to see if its close enough to fab it on an fc hatch. i think this could be done by cutting the hatch in two peices and welding the piece with the glass to car while only having to fab metal to the lower part of the back glass and moving the hinges to this fabrication in order to use the back half of the original hatch frame as the trunk. the trunk wouldn't need to be flat as board, so using the back half of the hatch frame to cover with sheet metal would be ideal in keeping the lines on the car flowing...

anyway, the pic looks fantastic. thanks alot..

Seems like this thread has been silent for a while, but I just came upon it. Personally, I have always loved the look of an s13 hatch, and quite frankly, I haven't ever really liked the coupes at all. But now that I see this creation, I think that this looks amazingly baller. I don't think I would do it to my FC, but this definitely grabs (and holds) my attention.

S13 coupes are very good looking imo. I hated the hatches, which is why I bought a coupe lol. I would love to see someone coupe out an FC in real life.
