Ok here is where im just a flat out ***.. NO ONE cares about anyones illegal ricer blue blinding headlights in improper ebay refractor housings. There is NOTHING special about what you guys are doing with the ebay PnP stuff. Stop wasting thread space. I can go get HIDS for any vehicle. Hmm i think ill put some in a chrysler minivan.(seen it).. Nothing special. At least put some Cibie-type metal refractor housings in. Someone should change this to say "Official FC with clean HIDs Thread" I understand not everyone is willing/stupid enough to chop up the front of their car like mine. I can understand that. There are other solutions... outside of being a part of the lazy screw everyone else on the road glared headlights crew.

I so far i have tested the cibie e-code housing vs. ebay crap ****, and seems like cibie have pretty good cutoff. As of now im trying to get a hold of a hella DOT housing. I am currently lacking in pictures because I lost my camera adapter cable. Like i said once i get a chance i will post some more pics up.
Also I noted these setup are not legal!

I just got the Hella E-codes and the cutoff is really good! I don't have anyone holding their hands up shielding their eyes when coming up beside them and the light lays out very nice and even. Everyone that I have spoken to says that the only distracting thing is the color as it stands out opposed to every other car on the road near mine. lol.
I love my Hella's and @ $90 for both housings the quality is great! Nothing that's going to fog up and look cheap and what not like ebay housings. The reflector part is round and smooth not some retarded diamond cut design where your lights are illuminating the headliners of cars riding beside you. lol.
I'll try and get some interior shots of the cutoff and such but the reason there's a sharp rectangle right in front of my bumper is b/c the tabs on the headlight retractor arms are broken where it mounts to the ball joint. So my headlights sit like 1" lower than they should.
all in all tho they are cool but I'm about finished with them honestly. I may just but some Silvania Silverstars in my Hellas and call it a day. I try to keep tucking the excess wires from the HID's but they still get caught up in the headlights and they always never sit flush anymore.

Threw my hat in the ring for a set of these. But need a bunch more firmly interested buyers to make them a reality. I searched High and Low on the net for housings like these. At estimated price of $750+ pricey indeed. But if you're building a "special" FC or FB, perhaps worth it.

The balasts are pretty touchy if they can't see enough juice from the battery and will do what you describe. Also, I suggest you change out your bulbs for lower temparture ones. The higher temp (toward purple) like yours seem to be look cool but do a comparative not great job lighting things up for the human eye. Suggest 6000k at the most. Stock color is around 4300k. Most factory stock HID's are 6000k or lower.
One VERY important comment. Be sure and mount the ballasts where they see a lot of fresh air for cooling. And do NOT mount them inside the engine bay what with all the heat inside there. The ballasts are really sensitive to heat and will fail prematurely if not getting sufficient cooling. I suggest you mount them either in the headlight well or near where the main relays are mounted just below and in front of the stock air intake snorkle.

Yeah the temp that I have are pretty "flashy" if you will but don't really do much for lighting, and I knew this. But I'm thinking of going back down to either 6500 or 8k. That is, if I keep the HID's in anyway. lol.

I'd just stick with the Silverstars personally. I've run several sets of Silverstar Ulta's in various cars inclusing 7's and they are the only halogen bulbs I buy. But I'm going to be working on my own HID retrofit in the future with some Hella 90mm Projectors. Factory temps are 3100k while OEM HID's are 4300k. I've never seen any factory HID's higher than 4300k as they all use the same D2S bulbs.

I think most stock factory HID are around 4300~5500k 6000k its already too blue for me.

you guys were talking about ballast alot of them are mass produced cheap ballast. they pump these ballast with polyeurethane to insulate them from vibrations and an moisture.. Unfortunately it makes them lack the ability to cool properly. i found some junk ebay hid ballast (free) that have actually worked badass. while my other hid ballast have burnt up in a matter of months in one case a week. I think i finally have the good set. luck me...

I hope most of you will go to housings that have a cut off if your not. But I'm also curious how much your paying for the HID kits? I buy from www.ddmtuning.com for my A4 and I can get slim digital 55w ballasts for 60 and 35w for 50. For the larger ballasts its 30 for 35w and 40 for 55w in any temp rating you want. Just ordered hella projector fog lights and a 55w H3 hid kit for $87 shipped

I'M thinking about getting a 6000k hid kit from hidextra.com and getting
3000k for my foglights...as far as for the housings I don't have alot of money so
I'm thinking eBay h4 projector housings...what do you guys think?

If you don't get headlight housings with a decent cut off, such as Hella or Cibe, please don't. Read all the posts in this thread.
