"New" Vert in the family

What's up guys. I haven't posted in the second gen section before, but since I picked up this 90 Vert I figured that I would say howdie. I traded a 85 GSL-SE for it that I had about $400 bucks in. The PO swore that the engine was shot in the car. That's why I love stupid people. Turns out the ECU was fried, and it had two injectors leaking down. The car has 92K miles, and the only bad is a small tear in the drivers seat right on the edge and a small tear in the top at the left drain. Anywho, here's a couple of pics of the car.

I plan on doing a 5 speed swap. I have already done a CAI and single left exit exhaust. I went ahead and pulled the rats nest and emmisions when I had the intake off swapping the injectors. I traded a buddy out of a TII hood also. I need to get that clutch fan off and put a double pulley on the alternator. Anyway, here's a few more pics.

RXVERT Always in progress

I can't say welcome aboard, because I'm, the newbie here, whew, look at all your post, Anywho, aleast let me say welcome to the other side, ( That's being a vert owner ), not as fast, but could be depending on your motor, they provide the same thrill of driving a coupe except you get the option of letting the top down and wind blowin thru your hair, and seeing things all around you , that you wouldn't notice, when driving in a coupe. Just crank up the music, hit the freeway, and drive. Good luck on your project, and keep us all posted.

If I feel the need for speed I just drag the Turbo FB out of the garage and turn up the boost . Thanks for compliments.

I got a few things knocked off my list of "things to do". I finished up the intake, installed my front strut bar, and have taken care of the exhaust. I snagged the TII hood from a friend who is parting one out. A couple pics of the progress so far.

The single exhaust

Finally the engine bay. I still haven't got to the fan and shroud yet, but soon.

Now it's on to the firewall stuff, like the clutch master, hardline, and slave cylinder. Then it's on to the trans!

Thanks for the offer, but I found a good source for them from a local starter/alternator repair shop that I can get however many I want for free from scrap cores.

That's the main reason I jumped on this car. I think the sexiest RX7 is a widebody turbo vert. I know I will never widebody this one, but doing a turbo isn't that far out of the question

BTW, those are some sexy shoes on yours.

I'd first like to say, nice car. When I got into RX-7's, I didn't much care for the 'vert, but since then it's grown on me. Just one question... Why do a dual sheave alt pulley when you could just use a yoo-hoo belt? Just runs to the water pump and back... And it'll never slip. The part # is: [ Gate's Power rated #6822 ]

I've run the yohoo belt back in the day, but those things are a pain in the butt to put on or take off. They will stretch over time and loose their grip. Plus the dual pulley looks much cleaner in my opinion. I still need to get the clutch fan off, and drop in an e-fan. Thanks for the props guys. I hope to get the trans swap done in the next couple of weeks.

What code was the engine throwing? The OMP probably went bad and fried yoru old ECU. I'd check the OMP, because if it is bad, it will likely kill your new ECU too. Get a Good one, or Get an RTEK or something to eliminate it and Premix.
You didn't mention anything about that so I just wanted to give you a heads up. It's a common problem for S5's.

The ECU that was in the car was from a 5 speed na. It had a N350 with BAD written in red ink on it. Apparently somebody did some shady work on this car before I got it. I dropped my buddies N353 (which is what was supposed to be in it) ecu in it and haven't had any errors or problems since.

On a differrent note, I went to the Pull-A-Part and scored an e-fan for the vert. I also scored a tail light for my E36. What sucks is it's a 5 speed and the car hasn't been touched. If I would have had enough time and funds, I could have grabbed everything to do a 5 speed swap on the Beamer.

I guess one swap at a time

Rebuilt my free clutch master last night, and one of my good buds from North Wilkesboro came by today with some more free goodies. He brought me some pedal covers, slave cylinder, and firewall lines. I also ordered my clutch disk last night. Now the search begins for a N350 flywheel. Wish me luck

Bryan at RotorSports has come through for me again! I went by his shop today and scored a N350 flywheel for $20 bucks! I went ahead and put the vert in the garage and started on the teardown. Pics will follow shortly.
