Need Help for my sons 88 vert

Greetings... I am hoping that anyone here can guide me in the proper direction to getting an original convertible top for my sons 88 vert.

Problems I have ran into... I bought a top for $550 from Robbins auto tops and they send me the wrong one. Also it didnt have the hole cut out for the glass. Please help !!!

why do you think its the wrong one? did you get rain guards and not want them or vise-versa?

Robbins is considered the better of the aftermarket tops, cutting the hole for the window will be the simplest of the installation process, if im not mistaken none of them come with the window cut out.

They send me the 1989-1992 convertible top that comes with rain guards. The 1988 has a different part number and does not come with the rain guards. I dont know if my sons 88 needs rain guards or not. I looked at his stock top and it does not have rain guards but then again the car is always flooding when it rains because there are holes in the top where the rain guards should be. In regards to the cutting of the window hole, how would I go about measuring it correctly so it is where it is supposed to be? Thanks for your response.

There's different types of tops the OEM vinyl top, or the Robbins version top almost like a black velvet look, and aftermarket tops that come in various colors. As for the OEM tops the 88's I believe came with a very semi small seam line stiching, confused to be a rain gutter intially see, pcts #1 & 1a. The 89's and above ,came with a distinctive rain gutter line, which works well to channel the rain away from the side windows and runs to the front or rear windows, see picts # 2 & 2a, the top, w/o a window probably looked like this, see pict#3 The robbins top have that black velvet look, see picts #4 & 4a.

Oh, and I forgot to mention... No installation manual, no instructions. I almost feel like I am supposed to be an upholsterer to have any type of clue of how to get this top on... Does anyone know where I can find an installation manual for this top or anything similar that will help me to get this one installed. I cant bear to see this car keep accumulating water inside with everytime that it rains.

A person whos very handy and confident in him or herselfself, just search the search engine on this site, and type in some key words like:, vert, top install, I've seen tops done by week-end warriors, The top are on, but , they sag alot, on the sides, if your not a patient person, leave it to the professionals.

RXVERT, Thanks for the advice. I spend a couple of hours on the search engine regarding the vert top and I found a lot of helpful information... I will more than likely be moving forward in trying to do it myself. Lets see what comes of it...

im in the middle of my top replacment. mine is a 91 with the drain hoses attached. i got it from convertable top guy online cause the offered the instilation manual wich i guess could be better but still very usefull. my big tip would be to take lots of pics(weather stripings, brackets, bolts) as many as possable and from every angle. when you need to go back and look at some for ref. you will wish you had more. take notes and draw diagrams. don't rush and cover the car with a tarp if it rains. about the window cut out, you wont realy need to measure anythig cause once the top is streched and bolted on the rear and front it should be tight as a drum. from there you will see the window frame indention and use it as a pattern. cutting the window hole out is also the last point that you can get the rest of the little wrinkels out.
sorry it sound like i should rewrite the manual anyways good luck and don't rush it to much.
